Why does the Mormon church not excomunicate Brandon Flowers?

I have seen online news articles that report about Mormon pop star Brandon Flowers frequenting Las Vegas casinos.
If any Mormon participates in gambling like that,they would be almost excommunicated or maybe expelled from the church.But if he is a celebrity member in the public spotlight,can the church afford to punish him fro gambling?

Jesus, if they excommunicated people for having bad taste

no one would be left in Mormonism. Just because Stephenie has bad taste in writing fiction isn't an excommunicateable offense. A lot of the content was against church standards but the tastelessness was pure Mormonism at it's finest/worst.

Why would I WANT the LDS church to stick their noses into somebody else's business?

I see no value in them kicking somebody out of an imaginary kingdom of god.

Hopefully they can learn to let the God they believe in do the judging of other people all by himself, perhaps AFTER they finish living their lives.

The church would get too much bad press if the excommunicated Brandon Flowers.

I'm not sure about elsewhere, but here in the UK, he's HUGE, and has a plethora of fans. He's had a top 10 single very recently, which got a LOT of airply, and his album has sold loads already. His fans will think more highly of mormonism if they find out Brandon Flowers is a mormon, and the church knows this. If Brandon Flowers was a public hate figure, they'd excommunicate him.

Brandon Flowers also drinks alcohol, supports gay rights, and I've heard him do things like interviews on the radio on Sundays.

The criteria for excommunication are rather narrow.

There are three main catagories:

-Sexual misconduct (including adultery, fornication, homosexuality, gender reassignment surgery, etc.)

- Criminal convictions

- Fomenting apostasy in others and/or publicly refusing to knuckle under to the brethren.

Just being a crappy Mormon isn't enough to get you excommunicated.

I think lack of tithing just loses you your Temple Recommend.

Although big tithers appear to get a pass on a lot of things from what I've been reading. :)
