Is it kind of like leaving congress, but you still get to draw some sort of living allowance? ie. you get 80% of the 100k you were making or whatever before. However, if you DON'T get emeritus status, your pension is cut off?

substantial service at retirement, usually. Hard to know what the retirement package is as the LDS Church does not disclose those figures.

Still expected to serve !! --but with a golden parachute and benifits -- still hold the status office.. But you are expected to serve but under way less pressure --(did I mention that ? )

It never applies to the designated prophet, though. No matter how decrepit, dilapidated and incapacitated, they will wheel the almost-dead corpse out onto the stand for the public to gaze upon at each General Conference. They'll even use an auto-pen to sign documents in his name.

Stake Patriarchs are supposed to serve until they die, there isn't suppose to be a release from this calling. I know of one Patriarch that was clearly suffering from alzheimers disease & was no longer able to function as the Partiarch & so a new one wa called and it was announced that the old Patriarch, was being released with 'Emeritus' status.
