My daughter is in the same elementary school class as the bishop's daughter. The first week of school, they were given an assignment to make a list of their 10 favorite quotes and then read the quotes in front of the class. One of the bishop's daughter's favorite quotes was "There are two ways to reason with a Mormon and neither of them work."

Seriously? The bishop's daughter said this? I've been shaking my head for a week, waiting to ask you guys what you think is going on here. It's not one of life's major questions but it's like a puzzle you can't solve that keeps nagging at you. ;)

It sounds to me like she overheard her father talking about his job. :)

I would LOVE that because this is the bishop that screamed at me and there is NOTHING that would make me happier than to see him frustrated with Mormons and questioning it and then leaving the church with his family.

If it was someone older, I would think it's an apologist parodying mormons or something, but a girl at that age probably wouldn't think into it that deeply. I really don't know why she said it, unless, as someone suggested, her parents have been telling her this, perhaps as a joke, or perhaps seriously.

because mormons are trained to be "nice" but also unreasonable.

Perhaps the quote means that mormons rely on faith over reason? And they see this as a good thing?

That's all I can come up with.

I would say that it was one of those "out of the mouths of babes" sorts of thing...

When I was 7 my best friend's older brother asked me what Mormon's believed in and I immediately replied that "we don't have sexual relations, drink beer or smoke"...I was ONLY 7 and it was not scripted.
