Apparently a Gingrich staffer recently had to step down due to Newt's policy of promoting a friendly instead of a negative campaign.

This staffer was explaining in a focus group that evangelicalsl view Mormonism as a cult.

WTF? This staffer was being honest, this is truly how the evangelicals tend to view Mormonism.

But someone ought to get in touch with the media and let them know that it's not just evangelicals that feel this way. Many, many exmos also feel this, through the sting of shunning when they depart from Mormonism, the rituals, the top heavy rules and requirements that suck away both free time and disposable income, etc. etc. Who will take this on? Puh -leeze?

This post is to point out the fallacy that exists in America: that to be religious in any way = good.

Here's the story link:

By firing a staff member for using the "c" word, it is all about publicity and showing they are a kind group of campaigners. All the staffers may think Mormonism is a cult, they just don't want to come across that way.

There is a reason Mitt can't get above 23% - but no one wants to come out and say so:

People in his own party do not want to vote a Mormon in to the White House. Apparently, voters prefer even a flawed Gingrich to a Mormon.

Newt is one of the sharpest insulters out there and quick to smack down his opponents, as in his comeback to Mitt's claim he isn't a career politician. "Only because you lost to Ted Kennedy."

Gingrich LOVES that one of his staffers called Mitt a cult member, because it means Newt didn't have to do it himself.

The bottom line is that El Newter will use that cult angle as a dog whistle to evnagelical voters.

The staffer just went a little too far is all.

But Newt still has his "plausible deniability".

This.

It benefits Gingrich to play nice, at the moment, and let Romney take a few of the other players out of the game before he goes after him.

That's the way you play the game of thrones, after all.

Agree with Helamonster, but just wait til the Morg press takes this one and runs with it. "See how persecuted we are! Those evil bad people think that God's truthiest church is a CULT!! Isn't it wonderful and marvelous that the Spirit prompted even Newt (bad as he is) to fire that awful person who was so mean to us"........and so on and so forth etc.
And everybody else will still think: "Yep. Cult". And so it goes.

Oddly, the type of religeous folk who believe that mormonism is a cult also believe that catholocism is a cult. I don't know that either Mitt or Newt can win over these people. These people -- and there's a lot of them down here in the south, are going to write in Mike Hukabee, Sara Palin, Rick Perry, Michele Bachman before they vote for a mormon or catholic. That's the reason I believe that Obama has a good chance of retaining the White House.

Firing the staff member for calling Mormonism a cult is just an invitation to mormons to vote for him once he has the nomination. He knows that Mormons by and large vote republican and he wants to maintain a favorable image with Mitt's following.
