A question popped up in my mind today. If missionaries are discouraged (ordered) to not watch television, read newspapers, etc. do they vote by absentee ballot in elections? If so, how can they possibly be informed voters if they aren't allowed to read, etc.? Also, are senior missionaries under those same rules or are they allowed to read and watch what they want?

Thanks,
Moira

On my mission in the mid 80's we were told that we were there to serve the lard, and to not be engaged in worldly concerns. If we got caught voting, we would have been sent home.

The church would never do anything illegal. Right?

It's also illegal to make someone surrender their passport. Like, say, to the mission president.

Is this still the case?! That is outrageous. Does anyone know if Utah was able to get the extra congress seat that it was trying for a few years ago because of "all of the missionaries" that were in the mission field who wouldn't be counted in the census? That would be awful if they were able to get that extra seat but don't allow the missionaries to vote!
