I was up early with a sick toddler and my dang doorbell rings at 8:30 a.m. on a SUNDAY morning!! I peak out the gauzy curtain on the door window and see what appears to me to be two Mormon men bearing a Thanksgiving feast.

I freaked out a little bit. (My JackMo hubby is still technically on the rolls of the church and I figured this was an attempt at reactivation for him). Now we've had those Thanksgiving basket drop-offs from the ward a couple of times in the past. Not because we're *poor* necessarily, but because we foster/adopt a boat load of special needs children and it gives everyone the warm fuzzies to do something nice for our family.

So I had a ferocious battle in my head for 5 seconds about what to do . . . and finally decide to be polite and accept the gift (after all it's Thanksgiving, darnit!)

I open the door with a smile on my face and before I can say anything, one man announces they are from the Knights of Columbus!! Holy Smokes.

I guess the Catholics love-bomb, too!!

Anybody need an extra Turkey??

;o)

LOL! That's pretty amazing. I guess we never know who's trying to win us over.

Were you wanting to be Catholic and just waiting for a turkey or other enticement to seal the deal?

Actually we are Catholic (except hubby). We resigned from the LDS church a few years ago and returned to Catholicism. My 13-year-old son goes to a Parochial school, so that's probably where our name came up.

Still, the encounter gave me creepy Mormon flashbacks. ugh.

;o)

You should have known they were not Mormon, because a turkey is actually a nice gift!

Funny how dealing with the Mormons has made us suspicious of do-gooders. :)

Nearly everyone of my father's siblings was baptised in a differnet faith. It depended on who gave the family the nicest Christmas basket that year.

I love turkey and I love gifts, but 8:30 on Sunday morning? They better not ring my door bell.

the first thing I'd ask is, "Is it kosher?" If they give me a strange look indicating they don't know what "kosher" is, I'd tell them "Thanks, but no thanks" and shut the door.

But then again, I prefer the taste of the kosher birds.
