I'm Pagan and would like to say thank you all for the "Happy Solstice".
(Saturnalia was only celebrated by the Greco/Roman pagans) BUTTTT!!!!

I'm the same way. If someone wishes me "Merry Christmas", I wish them "Merry Christmas" back. The greeting, to me, simply means, "I hope you have a great holiday". I don't take offense at it, especially when no offense is meant. To everyone else I say "Happy Holidays", unless I know their specific religion. HEAVENS PEOPLE LIGHTEN UP!!!

And, yes, the only people who "offend" me are those who think it's wrong for me to say "Happy Holidays".

For example: I once said "Happy Holidays" to a store clerk. He snerkily said "it's Merry Christmas. After all it's about Christ". To which I replied, "I'm Pagan, so you're lucky I didn't just hex you and make soup out of your children!" (And, yes, I then went to visit the store manager.) The altercation had nothing to do with "Merry Christmas". It had to do with him being an asshole! And, let's face it! Every group of people have them. No-one has the market on that.

I'm lmao! That was priceless!!! Seriously, though, I agree. Merry Christmas is not offensive. I'm not Catholic but I don't go ballistic if someone says Happy St. Patricks Day or Happy St. Valentines Day to me.

I'm with you Heidi. If no offense is intended, why take offense?

Whether you're Christian and taking offense if someone says "Happy Holidays" to you, or if you're non-Christian and someone wishes you a "Merry Christmas". Don't act like a total douchebag. What's the point? Both are agenda shoving B.S.

Agree with you elee. I don't take offense when a different greeting is given-although it is Christmas. So why if you are wishing someone a happy holiday and know they attend a Christian church....then say what applies- Merry Christmas. If you don't know them, then Happy Holidays is fine. And for any atheist who is offended, well that is just sad. Allow others to have a holiday even if you don't.Or stay indoors if you are offended and be a recluse.

Just to be up front and give my comments some context, I am on the atheist/agnostic side of this equation.

Life is just too short to get my panties in a bunch over the way the cashier in the grocery store wishes me season's greetings.

We love children, yes we do.
Baked and boiled and in a stew.
May the children in the street
Be your barbequeing meat.

And as in the fish heads song lets all sing "Eat them up! Yum!"

writing out the word "Christmas", after such a big deal was made by some Christians about using "Xmas".

But after reading the post yesterday about the beginnings of the abbreviation, I've decided to take up using XMas again. If the X started in the Guttenburg Bible, it's not disrespectful in the least to Christians. Also, I'm tired of adjusting perfectly reasonable habits to cater to bossy people.

If THEY want to say Merry Christmas, then THEY can say it. If THEY want to nix using XMAS as an abbreviation, then they can write it however they want.

But I'll say or write what suits me from now on. If anyone tries to correct me, I'll tell them directly that they can choose their own words, but they can't choose mine.


BTW, I loved the "Happy Holidays" story, Heidi! You GO girl!

Which is fine by me. But we tend to take rations of s**t from the "Christmas Warriors" who try to force us to say "Merry Christmas".

I simply refuse, once they become a**holes about it. F**k 'em.
