I recorded (I love DVRs!!!) the movie on the LOGO channel. It's about an Idaho missionary who goes to sinful LA and ends up having a homosexual relationship. I haven't watched it yet, but I wondered if anyone thought it was good or stupid or what.

Friends of mine thought the Mormon-y scenes of church court and family drama were too bland and underdone & thus unrealistic in their experiece (they had some harrowing gay Mormon experiences), but that's probably because the producers/writers felt that the public would not believe it if they portrayed how truly badly the Mormons treat their own when they discover they are LGBT.

I hope you enjoy the movie. :)

let them go through a church court with me. I don't recognize their authority, so why would I subject myself to such hate and bigotry?

Overall, the movie was rather good. It seriously downplayed just how Mormons treat those of their people who they find to be gay or in some other way not fit for "the gospel" but I doubt many people who haven't been in the religion would have seen such extreme hatred and verbal violence as realistic.

Thought it was very good. The scenes where he was in "treatment" were so sad.

I enjoyed the film. The reflection of gay life in Los Angeles was a bit dated, but is forgiven when the overall story is developed.

Also try Angels in America for depiction of a gay man in a mormon family.

We own both Angels in America and Latter Days. I recommend them both. The Mormon family depicted in Latter Days is somewhat reflective of the attitude my family showed when my brother came out.

and how they continue to treat me. So like I said, it hits pretty close to home.

Great movie, although the acting is terrible. The plot is good and reflects mormon attitudes pretty good.

Why do so many movies feature Mormon missionaries in L.A. (Orgasmo, Latter Days, God's Army)?

When Elder Davis kisses the gay guy, his companion walks in, sees them, and says, "Aw for...FLIPPIN GROSS!!!" I can picture a missionary saying that!

I thought it was good. Hit pretty close to home. I realized that when I got that warm-fuzzy-burning-in-the-bosom feeling when he found a "family" that accepted him the way he is, that it wasn't really the Holy Ghost that gave good feelings like the church made me believe. How could it testify of something obviously against mormon teachings?

worth the watch.
