Earths position in the universe is so finely tuned for life that every 60 million years it gets hit with enough cosmic rays to cause mass extinctions

Without the galactic plane's magnetic field shielding us, we might be in for a high dose of radiation. This might be one reason why we see mass extinctions happening with a fair amount of regularity on Earth over the past 500 million years."

So every 60 million years God decides to shake things up by killing off nearly all the life he created and seeing what happens with the survivors?

Look at it this way. If all of these catastrophes had not happened, we might not have had a chance to evolve. Mammals are relatively recent additions. Whatever happens happens. (n/t)

Until the next major cosmic ray burst and we get fried.

We need to start colonizing the ocean floor so that humans will survive the next burst. Or perhaps the next age will be the age of the Dolphins!

Until evidence is produced for this idea it is merely conjecture.
