when speakers at conference finish giving their talks, why does the presiding authority always come to the podium and say these same words:

"Brother (Sister) so-and-so has just spoken to us."

They always say these exact words, every time, so i figure there must be some reason for it!

Someone once told me that it is confirmation that the words just spoken are approved by the prophet, but i have no idea if this is accurate. Is it?

Thanks if you can enlighten!

for those that may be turning in late, or miss part of a talk. It's nothing more than an identification.
It's like some radio shows, they will announce the music before and after or just after.
I prefer it that way. That way I know who and what I was listening to.

and they post it at the beginning of the talk and the end too..

My guess is it's because it's on radio and television and people who tuned in might not know who just finished talking if they turned it in mid speech.

I'm sure it's not to say that what was in the talk has the "prophet's good-housekeeping seal of authority." They always want to be prepared to say "well that was just Elder So-and-so giving an opinion" later on.

They do it because extra words are a sign that someone is "filled with the spirit." It's like saying a rose is a rose. It provides no information whatsoever but it sounds important and it's undeniably true. Picture if you will, heads nodding in the audience. "By golly that WAS who just spoke!"

So when somebody gets up and raves about the "simple truths spoken today," that's what they're talking about.

It began exactly like this:

"Our Dear Father in Heaven, there has been a great tragedy..."

It's those extra words they love. It's as though God didn't know about it until Hinckley informed Him through publically-broadcast prayer.

When I was a lad, it was, "he to whom you have just listed was Elder yada yada.

And it was alway, the choir will now "render" or has just "rendered."

I miss the old days. But don't get me going, I'll start posting about Relief Society Bazzars.
