It doesn't define us. I think this is where a lot of people get confused. They have this preconceived notion that every gay person out there in the world falls into a set of stereotypes and behave a certain way, and therefore, it must be all we are.

And that's one of the main problems with the ignorance and bigotry towards gay is bigots try to make it all about sex.
I think those people have more graphic fantasies about gay sex than any gay or lesbian I know. Bigots sure do like to describe it in detail.

When my best friend of 26 years came out after her mission, me and DH drove her up to Evanston, Wyoming to buy her lesbian porn. I watched it with morbid fascination and just kept thinking to myself "Dear God, those fake fingernails HAVE to leave nicks and rips..."

I always wonder about that as well...or what if one comes off?

I read the entire thread and I was so happy that everyone you listed said what they said. I tend to shy away from confrontation. I think the anger and frustration just clouds my mind and I'm kind of paralyzed.

Don't get me wrong -- even then I really questioned the whole "God hates homosexuals" thing. But I still tried to believe that homosexuals were supposed to be celebate.

HA! That's easy for someone like me, who has trust issues, but not realistic for the average human. And it's a cruel expectation to have for anyone.

And it really steams me when some idiot claims that because they find the thought of homosexual relations disgusting for themselves that it MUST be wrong. By that reasoning I should despise my son and daughter in law for eating mushrooms because -- let's face -- mushrooms are gross and anyone who eats them must be disgusting. (Really, mushrooms are very gross -- why do people like them?)

Hey---I'll thank all those who stood up for my comments on the other thread, too--about me being bitter, etc.

Yeah, sometimes you get angry or remember bitterness but you don't wallow in it nor do you advocate it. Only a moron would have asked you such a stupid question.

By the way -- I think you're awesome to have survived and thrived in spite of the way the church abused your faith and obedience. Kudos and much respect. :D
