My g/f and I rarely talk about religion and when we do, it's basically to gather information. Oddly enough, she's ex-JW and I'm ex-mo so you can imagine the dynamic if the subject of religion ever rolls around.

Well, we have a neighbor that's having a rough time. She's 35 or so and her husband (38) passed unexpectedly last year from a heart attack. At any rate, we've sort of adopted her. We invite her over all the time and, more importantly, she'll come over at the drop of a hat.

Last night was one of those times. We got home late from work and I made some roasted chicken titties with raspberry chipotle sauce, wild rice and some steamed veggies. We had enough for three so we called around 7PM and asked if she was hungry. Over she comes, in her jammies (normal MO, we don't care) we eat, open some wine and we talk about everything under the son. All of a sudden she up and says:

"Don't you hate it when folks tell you that the Lard won't give you more than you can handle?". Shila and I almost peed ourselves laughing and I say "Don't go there, you're talking to an ex JW and and ex Mormon!". She says "So, you hate Gawd too?"... and we all pee our pants again.

Interesting how just the thought of discussing religion can make us laugh our asses off. It wasn't so long ago that this type of "light mindedness and loud laughter" would have been offensive to us.

Just sayin'...

Ron

And it was at this point where I thought the story was going to get really good!

LOL, I was thinking that too when I was writing it. But, alas, all I can say is "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.".

My personal fav is "How do you like me now?"

Actually, that can apply to leaving the church behind as well.

Use Fischer and Wieser raspberry chipotle sauce (3/4 cup), add two tblsp of red wine 1 tblsp of orange juice 1/4 tsp of powdered garlic and 1/2 tsp of kosher salt.

Heat to boil, let rest (evaporates alcohol), then heat up again just before slathering over the chicken breasts.

yum!

I want the recipe for the raspberry chipotle sauce!

I didn't even see that GT had asked for it, too!!!

I wonder how the mormons would handle her being a widow-shun her?

I'm with ya on that!

I'm been made a believer in the power of humor and laughter. And, isn't religion great fodder for both?
