I spent the day with my TBM mom and her TBM friend. The TBM friend all afternoon was bashing people from the ward about going inactive, getting people pregnant, doing drugs, or alcoholism, refusing to help their parents out, etc, etc.

This from a woman who was pregnant at 15-16 and had a second right after. A woman who's children refuse to talk to her because of their abuse they saw at her hands. A woman who accused her husband of physical abuse, which caused him to be hauled up in fron of the Bishop and almost lost his TR, when she physically would attack him without consequence. And then she talks about oh how she has to get to the Temple.

Anyway, we were driving and they were talking about hotels. I was so tired of the self-righteous sanctimony that I blurted out,"Why not stay at the marriot hotel where you can watch porn and read the book of mormon? Kinda like repenting while sinning." They did NOT think that was funny and said as such.

I think its funny how Marriot is known as a mormon and distributes Book of Mormon's in his hotels and yet condones pornography in the rooms. And while I don't criticize him for supporting marriage equality, I think its funny that it flies in the face of the marriott's faith. Anything for a buck, I guess. They can pay tithing on it and make it up to tscc. tscc will set aside marriott tithing and put it towards the homosexual persecution fund.

Ugh!

Not to mention being in the leadership positions that he was in, he probably sat in on a few "courts of love" dealing with pornography.

I stay in Marriott hotels 3-5 times per month. When I do find 1 with a book of mormon, I take the handy pen sitting on the night stand next to the book of mormon, open the cover of the book and then write my testimony.

Do you really think anyone reads those books? Almost every one that I pull out looks brand new unless some simple-minded theist has written Bible passages on the Bible.

The Freedom From Religion organization has stickers that you can purchase online. You can deface Gideon by applying rational thought and reasoning references on that shit book.

I think that it is a violation of my religious freedom having them in a room that I paid for. Those books disgust me.

Let let management replace them. More to toss in the trash.

I do some real missionary work at the front desk of the Marriott's when I mention to the staff about what I think of their books, particularly the BoM.

I love Marriott hotels. I can throw Bible AND a BoM in the trash. That drawer makes a great place for the hotel phone.

It is always cathartic. Two terrible books of fiction about condoning genocide, murder, larceny, controlling theocracies, lunacy, and false history.

They just replace them, and the Marriott Corporation will then pay churchco for the new book. I like testimonyman's idea better. Write a little message in the front debunking the thing. Housekeepers are too busy to check for that.

Also leave helpful foot notes at a few strategic locations in the book.

forbiddencokedrinker - I like the testimony idea. But, what would you write? There's so much to say.

Maybe, "I bear testimony that if you go to MormonThink.com and read all that there is, I testify you will know the truth of the Book of Mormon without having to read it."

You just gave me a wonderful idea. Book of Mormon themed porn! I need a gorgeous large breasted woman to play the part of the Sister of Jared.

I think it's good that he allows porn in his hotel or whatever. Most mormons wouldn't be open-minded enough to do that.

Either way, if he didn't allow porn, people will complain, and if he does allow porn, people will complain. So he'll never win, but out of the two options, I think he's chosen the right one.

He's definitely chosen the right one to make the most mobey selling what he would condemn others for viewing or engaging in, and what his church believes is a sin. And definitely has chosen not to be in the world bit not of it. Definitely has chosen not to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

He's made a lot of choices, just not ones his church would allow other rank and file, non-million dollar tithe payers as he is, to get away with without pulling their temple recommends.

Total hypocrisy in action, there.

I like porn. The vanilla kind. Don't think it should be banned.

I love Marriott hotels; we stay in them often, particularly when traveling overseas.

I am nevermo. But I see a problem with Marriott family members not standing for something, as their church has asked all it's members to do when faced with such choices of integrity, honesty, or fidelity to church principles.

Because if the big wigs and wealthy business members who are big tithe payers in the church get exemptiOns and get special treatment as long as they pay up, what is with the double standard of the church which then turns a microscopic examine eye toward a poor immigrant cOnvert, and chastises them for similar small transgressions, where the behave in similar ways?

Would this be a form of payIng indulgences for sin? Only available to the wealthy?

And akin to when the LDS church leased its properties to brothels and took that money happily, for decades, and took tithes from church leader members who sold alcohol, etc, but when it hit the news they stopped doing it because it made them look bad? Not because they could admit they were wrong or bad, or allowing it was bad before that, right? What mattered was who knew about it and could call them out on it, I guess...

I see it as the same sort of choice that could be made, but isn't beIng made because its easy money, and they like money. As does the church to whom the family tithes from those porn dollars. actually saying no and giving up that mOney to make a statement which accords with the stated message of the church to which they belong is just too hard; aka they are putting profit ahead of the prophet.

Allowing porn is probably more profit driven than anything else.

I was ABSOLUTELY TRASHED by my brother over this very topic.

I brought up Marriott's infamous sep 2 2012 comments

"are you are as good as the Romneys" which my brother in true MORmON fashion denied had ever been made, then he had to eat crow since it was covered so extensively by the media at the Romney campaigns request! then I brought up Marriotts porn peddling.

my brother trashed me over making the connection that Marriott had millions, like half a billion or more on porn over the years.

That Marriott porn peddling and profiteering action could be completely discounted by my MORmON brother because marriott gave out BOms for free in Marriott hotel rooms.

HOWever when I pointed out that I shold be allowed some lee way in saying critical things about "THE" the church because I had given out BOM for free on an LDS mission, and was still willing to give out some free BOMs, ( because real inspection of the book show that it really is a POS, I mean a person had to be a real MORmON to believe it), I was not allowed that same kind of tolerance.

TWO FACED BACK STABBING STUPid ass HYPOCRITICAL MORmONS !

Mormons will do nearly ANYTHING to make a buck.

The Sav-on drug store chain is owned by a Mormon.

They have always sold liquor...

I recall this was covered extensively a while back.

Marriot are going to remove the porn channels from their rooms........... because it doesn't pay as well as it used to.

It's all about the bottom line. that's the long and the short of it

porn with profits = good

porn without profits = bad

It's not real porn, plus it has a prohibitive cost. Marriott offers free wifi so its customers can get real porn for free

Recently stayed in a Fairfield by Mariott hotel and found "on ice" a bottle of COMPLIMENTARY champagne waiting for us in the room. My husabnd and I enjoyed this treat. My still TBM daughter had one in her room too, which of course she did not open. Now you can even get slightly drunk on a Mormon's dime without having to pay big bucks for a fancy hotel room. Come to think of it, probably not a good thing to have waiting for you if you are a member of AA.

There's actually a straight porno from the golden age of porn (late 70s to early 80s, shot on film) called "Layover" where, at the beginning, as an airplane is coming in for a landing at an airport, the camera zooms in on a Marriot hotel. The very next scene, involving a guy with two girls, takes place in a hotel room. I'm pretty sure, based on what happens next, that they leave the copy of The Book of Mormon in the drawer.
