I looked up the Dallas, Texas temple and their Web site said that it's almost 50,000 square feet.

Then, I looked at the Salt Lake temple, and that thing is 385,000 square feet!

I've only done baptisms for the dead, so I have no idea what happens in any other rooms. What goes on in these places that requires that many square feet?

The older temples had more, larger rooms depicting the Garden of Eden, World, Telestial Kingdom, and Celestial Kingdom.

They also had huge Solemn Assembly halls above for "speshul" meetings.

The new baby temples just have a small movie room and small celstial room. Everything is scaled waaaaay back.

Only a small movie room and celestial room? I'd be asking for my money back.

I agree. In Washington D.C. they call the temple (where I was married) "The Wizard of Oz building".

I'd love to see someone spray-paint the ghastly monstrosity emerald green.
