I think the testimony thing is the way to go. Get up and go on and on about all the stuff you believed, how important the church was in your life, the expectations that you'd be with your family forever, god of your own planet etc... Then tearfully relate how you know that Joseph Smith lied. He was a conman and sent other men off on missions so he could sex up and marry their wives. End w

The only unchanging gospel is: Pray, Pay and Obey. Anything else can and will change as the church sees fit. Anything to appease the governments and draw in more converts.

"Of course you are "allowed" to seek the truth, but why would you when it has already been provided to you? Are you praying enough? Studying your scriptures? Yes? Than stop being a disobedient mormon and go clean the bathrooms. Drop your tithing off at the bishops office on your way." -generic/geriatric church authority Obedient mormons don't search outside of church

Sorry I'm a bit late with this. Took my family to visit my parents over the holidays. Since we were staying at their house, my wife (a nevermo/not religious) thought it would be a nice gesture to go to church with my parents. I protested a bit, but since I hadn't been to a service in over a decade I thought "ah what the hell?" I was impressed by the lack of Joseph Smith talk. Mo

Do you have kids? I have 2 boys. They're both still pretty young, but I can't imagine a time that I would ever not love them. Maybe you're reading too much into your father's declaration. He probably does love you, he just doesn't like what you currently are doing with your life. Remember that he is mormon. He believes in the system and that it is the way to eternal happiness. He believes

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/12/03/vatican-reveals-popes-twitter-handle-pontifex So the pope is going to be putting out spiritual thoughts via twitter to all the twits out there. How long until TSCC follow suit? What possible handles could the Profit use? How about: @letsshop @whitedelight @preachitdontteachit Any ideas?

Well, I guess we'll see about whether or not there's a contraction in about 8 billion years. I'll bump this thread.

I like to think that the universe has always existed. It's like a beating heart it expands for 20 billion years and then contracts for another 20. Then another 'big bang' repeat....

Wonder if the author has ever heard of sleep paralysis? During one bout, I felt like I was being held face down and taken advantage of. Was disappointed when I fully woke up and there was no one in the room. Someone should also point them to Sagan's 'Demon haunted world'

Relief and clarity. I had just been released from my Stake missionary calling and not given a new one yet. I was sitting in the lobby watching another ward finish their service and the thought hit me... "I don't have to be here." Instead of feeling guilt like I had for so many years, I felt relieved. A huge weight lifted and I walked out never to return. Finding this site

So the scriptures contain a lot of boring so-and-so begat blah-blah and on and on, which is supposed to show Jesus lineage? Is that even realistic? Are we to believe that all these biblical guys were always able to have sons that grew up to have sons of their own? Where are the daughters? Why is there no break where one guy only had daughters?

I think of it more like a fad-diet religion. It started out trying to answer all the pressing issues of the time and it gets constantly repackaged to keep sales up.

Atheism is as much a belief as 'Off' is a tv station. Anyway, can't recall who said it but it stuck with me: Believe in nothing, but think about everything. Once you give yourself permission to not be defined or constrained by beliefs, you are free to seek out truth and happiness wherever you may find it. Keep the good, what works for you, discard what doesn't.

Are there any accountants on the board? How do they get away with this? All the ward list themselves as charities and claim charitable donations to other charities...which just happens to be 'The church of jesus christ of latter-day saints in canada'. The TSCC then sends some of the money back to wards claimed as charitable donations, and the rest to SLC. There is no actual charity work bei

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/lstngs/menu-eng.html Canada: Search for latter-day saints (city name) There's a few entries, but most of them report nothing and if they really were a charity, why is the information lacking? Did a bit more digging today. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ebci/haip/srch/t3010form22QuickView-eng.action?b=119223758RR0001&e=2011-12-31&n=THE+CHURCH+O

My thoughts: Listen to her instead, but ask the questions. 1) Do you believe the BoM is a literal history? Why do you believe that? 2) Do you believe that JS was a prophet? Why? Do you believe that BY was a prophet? Why? 3) Do you believe Monson is a prophet? You get the idea. Ask her to explain why she believes in the cornerstones of the church. Start with the very basics.

rhgc - Is God all-powerful? Without being all-knowing that could be chaotic. I don't think the two can be separate. The power to create without knowing the result? Does this mean the christian god created our spirits without knowing whether or not we might rebel or surpass our creator? Why does an all-powerful being have needs? What is the motivating factor?

I think what is really terrible about playing this at the funeral is that instead of allowing us kids to feel sad about an obviously sad situation, we were singing about putting on a smile or the devil will get us.

For some reason today I thought back to when I was about 7 years old and a classmate of mine died. The following song (some of the chorus) has been stuck in my head for over 30 years so I looked up the lyrics and was disturbed that they played this at her funeral. This was supposed to be a favorite song of hers.... Mommy told me something a little kid should know. It's all about the devi

My TBM parents bless their food when they come to visit. I've been tempted to tell them off about it, but haven't yet. It's offensive if you think about it. "Oh god protect me from what I'm about to eat." I think I'll do that next time I'm at their place. Before I eat anything they've prepared I'll say something to the effect of "By the gods I pray that eating this doesn'

She must be so proud to belong to the one true church. Pray, pay and obey requires little imagination, little original thought and little courage. There's a lot of propaganda floating around in the mormon church bowl.

I knew that BY had many wives, I just couldn't remember how many so I went to the BY manual (I can't remember exactly what it was called or if the church still uses them...) and it said that he had 2 wives. That he remarried after his first wife died....no mention of polygamy at all. So here is the manual that I am supposed to use to learn about the prophets and the church is omitting importan
