We were having a lesson in RS once about the pioneers. Several people got a slip of paper to read during the lesson. The paper was something that they would be asked to sacrifice to set up the "kingdom of zion." One woman, who I always thought was a stone cold bitch and a complete nag, stood up to read hers. It was something like the lord commands your husband to take another wife.

He argued with me until I realized that it didn't matter what I said, I was getting baptized, and I gave up. I couldn't have articulated it at the time, but how could it be a covenant or anything close to that when I didn't even agree to it? When I was about 19 I reminded my dad of this incident and he said, "You know that's not true". (Which he has used on several other occasion

got into a discussion about polygamy. He said, "polygamy is just wrong and crazy". We never went to church again. Sometimes my husband drives me crazy, but he is definitely one of the good guys.

Together you make over $100,000 a year and you have no money for a therapist? I think both of you have your priorities messed up, or are not really being honest about wanting to go to a therapist. I would get out. Your situation is ridiculous.

My first awareness of the hypocrisy of the "church" was on Sunday morning. My mom would be running after 7 kids, cleaning up after breakfast, trying to brush our hair, help us find our shoes, make sure we kept clean and neat until we got into our car. My dad: take a shower, get dressed, then stand at the door yelling at us to hurry up because we were going to be late. (The af

It's horrible. The kids are starving all the time. Half of his job was just to make sure that they weren't eating, and of course, the kids were miserable. (not that I am saying you shouldn't make fun. that was pretty funny(

Get out! Get out now! Not only is he going to be hypocritical about this, you are going to find out that he has all kinds of crazy/weird ideas about women. Some of them he probably doesn't even realize that he has. DO NOT go talk to his bishop or LDS social services. They will just help you Work It Out and stay with him. They will not help YOU. Get out before your finances and other thin

If they are anything like my parents Jesus Christ himself could come down and tell them that this church is a fraud, and they would think it was a trick of "the adversary" trying to lead them astray.

1. I posted some of my views and he argues with them. I didn't comment on anything on his facebook. 2. I'm not going to block him or unfriend him in real life. I'm not looking for a father figure. I don't seek him out. I really don't care. I'm over it. 3. He's not going to change. If I argue or ignore him, it doesn't matter. And like I said I'm over it.

I think Halloween is a very good idea, and helps to keep kids safe. You meet all your neighbors and see the ones you don't know very well. You can find out which ones are a little creepy and who you should keep your kids away from. It also builds up community spirit and makes things like neighborhood watch a little more effective. (BTW all things that you DON'T get out of Trunk or Treat"

I thought my dad had unfriended me on facebook, so I looked on his page. I noticed that in his interests that third and last on his list is "patriarching", not "watching my children grow up and have families", "enjoying my grandchildren", "being with my family" etc. Very telling. When he found out that I knew he had unfriended me he said it was becau

The church is constantly telling women they are respected and honored by the church, so they start to believe it. They only realize that the church is abusive when they see it being done to other people.

Of course we can get past this. You are my brother and my friend. I believe that you have had a powerful spiritual experience. So have I. Unfortunately I have had equally powerful experiences telling me that the church is true and that the church is not true. I'm not going to share them because you've asked me not to tell you anti-religious things. We have had similar obstacles in our lives an

It was not my intent to offend. I was trying to give you the same boost I got when I felt the same as you when I was 20 or so. A sister missionary told me that she knew that I knew that the church was true and I just needed to ask our Hevenly Father the same thing. The spirit of the Holy Ghost was so strong at that time I had little doubt that what she was saying was true. Thats all I was trying

After several drafts this was my response: Heather Oberlander October 4 at 3:23pm This is probably the most offensive thing anyone has ever said to me. Not because you disagree with me, I appreciate that. Not because you ask me not to express something that you disagree with, that is just annoying. But because you presume to know my mind better than even I do. No, I do not know the ch

Admission from the higher ups that any previous policies were a mistake (not just "speaking as a man") and an apology. If this happened I still wouldn't believe, but I might get rebaptised to keep the peace in my family, becau

and although this woman is an extreme example, it's true that they will let just about anyone teach. You have to pass a test that a third grader would pass, and pass a background check. That's it. And, although teaching religion in school is illegal, it's not like anyone is going to complain, even about this crackpot, because that wouldn't be nice.

My brother, who was my best friend growing up, and who I had the most hope would probably leave the church just emailed me this on facebook: We get that you don't wish to be mormon anymore. We are not trying to convince you to come back to the mormon church. Please stop posting antimormon or antireligion rhetoric even if its under the pretense that you are just helping us "think". I'

During the prop 8 business: During sacrament meeting at my southern California ward the ward clerk and missionaries (and some others) passed around some sign up sheets for people to go to door and campaign for prop 8. The bishop stood up and asked people to volunteer for X amount of hours. Then he said, of course the church can't tell you how to vote. I've been friends with his wife since

Sorry. I wasn't paying a lot of attention before, but there were posts about one of the GA's giving a talk during conference that apparently the other GA's didn't like, so he recorded another talk that said the exact opposite. This second talk was the one that was played in rebroadcasts and published in the Ensign. Anyway, does anyone know who gave this talk and when? Also, do you have a link

That's I-15 from Rexburg area to St George I agree with this one because Morridor, is Mormon Corridor, which suggests it's contiguous. Also, I have lived in a lot of those other place, and just moved to Provo about a year ago. A vocal Mormon minority, even a Mormon majority isn't the same as a Mormon Majority that thinks that this is their homeland, and nothing else.
