I had been putting things on the shelf for about 20 years and it was starting to get pretty crowded. Then I read Grant Palmers 'Insiders View' and Carl Sagan's 'Demon Haunted World' back to back and it was over. The shelf came down and there was no going back.

the CofE - at first - embodied everything to me that I had been taught about the apostasy. Then I attended an Easter Candlelight Vigil service at a cathedral as a guest of one of the deacons and my perceptions of the CofE - and indeed of the LDS Church - were forever altered. Its ironic to me now that the church (Episcopal here in the USA) that I once looked down on with such derision I no

I feel your anger, Oak's bald head. Despite the recent change to "witnesses of the name of Jesus Christ" they still allow those members who want to believe that they have weekly PPI's with Jehovah in the SLC temple. And yes, there are members who believe this. I know. Some reside within my ward boundaries. Of course this could be very quickly and easily clarified if the Brethren

Except when going you are repeatedly bludgeoned about paying tithing. So even if you don't pay tithing you are going to hear about it constantly and the church makes an overt attempt at guilting you into paying it.

Is his Mexico City MTC president a douche? Will he get a long with his companions? Will his stateside MP be a douche or a decent guy? Etc, etc. For me it was a HUGE realization just a few days out in the "mission field" that a mission was not going to be what I had been conditioned it would be since Sunbeams. So basically its a coin toss. He may have a the Mormony experience of a

Ditto on the Episcopal Church. Its roots are the Church of England and thus the Catholic Church so it looks and feels alot like Catholicism. Some Episcopal parishes are devoted to nothing but service. The Episcopal Church is a refuge for many people who have been burnt by other christian denominations.

My father in law (Nevermo) had an NDE during a surgery in which he almost died. He described two men (who he did not recognize) on a mountainside motioning for him to come over to them. He then heard the voices of his family and turned away. He said it was a very clear and lucid experience and that he did not fear death. He passed away 6 months later.

Actually, take away the religion department and some of the facist Mo-Nazi's that inhabit it and its not such a bad place. My feelings are uncertain where BYU is concerned.

I have had the opportunity to watch a temple being constructed in my city. There was a time that the thought of a temple being built here was nearly apocalyptic. Surely the Lord and his church wouldn't bother with our benign little Midwestern city and state. As a child the closest temples were 1,800 miles away in Utah. The original old big ones. Salt Lake, Logan, Manti, St George. I was shown

Is been just over two months since Grant Palmer released info that he had been meeting with a member of the Q70 and a former MP who no longer believed. Has their been any other info on this since that original revelation?

Members can check out anytime they like (resign, etc) but as far as the church is concerned they can never really leave.

I didn't really want to go but not going would have been social suicide in Happy Valley. Once I got my call to a country in Europe I did get a little excited about it and looked at it more as an adventure. I was totally disillusioned to find out that missionary work was nothing more than door to door sales and observing that the mission - and the church in general - operated more like a sales

He's right only in that there is nothing wrong with the standards of the church. It can have whatever standards it wants. This total ass-hat of a SP misses the point. Its because of people like HIM and their self righteous, smug, holier than thou TOTAL LACK OF ANY CHRISTIAN COMPASSION that can make people feel so totally worthless that they would feel suicide is an only option. I would have

The moment I got off my mission the LAST thing I wanted to do was sell anything. But, being in Happy Valley and a recent RM I found myself, along with some friends, at a recruiting session for Eagle Marketing in Provo. I can't even remember what the hell it was they sold but the whole experience creeped me out. Their facility felt like a church visitors center. We were taken to a video room an

SVU is owned by a conglomeration of LDS business people and is not part of the LDS church education system. Its run as if it were BYU East, but its not.

This stood out in blazing neon when I read your post: "I love my wife. I have nothing against her. I care about her. I think she's a wonderful person. She's beautiful." Are you sure your not displacing some of that anger at TSCC onto your wife?

Go to the Cougareat or any of the on campus food facilities at BYU and you'll find Coke drink dispeners that also advertise The Real Thing. The Coke and Diet Coke are caffeine free, though. So there is still a caffeine taboo in the BYU food services.
