We sound pretty similar...I'm 39, have 4 kids, married in the temple, RM, BYU grad, the whole bit. I came out about 3 years ago to my wife, right after I baptized our 2nd oldest. I knew it would be 4 years until my next turned 8, so I figured that would be enough time to "figure it out." Well, fast-forward to now, and DW is still hard-core TBM, though becoming more accepting of m

My TBM wife has always liked facial hair, but other than a brief "rebellious" period when I grew a beard for a couple of months, I have never had any facial hair. As many of you know and have experienced, it seems to be understood in the Morg that you're not supposed to grow any facial hair. Our SP even came out several years ago and basically told all the men to shave it off if the

I played baseball there for a couple of years, '91-'92 and '94-'95, under Gary Pullins. As a side note, I was extremely TBM while I was there, and one day while in the training room, I overheard a couple of football players talking. Not only did they swear (gasp!), they talked about one of them getting some girl pregnant, and her having to leave BYU, so neither one would get in trouble. I

When I first discovered all the "incovenient truths" associated with the Morg and realized it was all a fraud, I was on the Stake High Council at the time, after having served in the Bishopric and as EQP prior to that. Because I was friends and serving with the SP, I felt like I needed to talk with him, and share my concerns. Before meeting with him, I had 2 big questions in my mind

Agreed, CA girl! Growing up, I was always good at sports, but was an especially good baseball player. I went on to play in college, but eventually dropped it, because one day I came to the realization that there was no reason to keep playing. In high school, I played so I could play in college, and then in college, theoretically to play professionally. But, as a good little TBM, I decided I

Good to hear from you, Charley. I asked because DW and ALL her family live in the valley (mostly Alamosa). I actually lived there for a couple of years, years ago. You're right--very strong LDS presence in Sanford, La Jara, Manassa.

Thinking of Covey always reminds me of the time my BYU Bishop was talking about him in a Bishopric meeting with us. He was TBM (and still is, I'm sure), but was a little bitter that Covey had made so much money over basically selling Gospel principles. Covey had a very nice, huge house above the Provo temple, and my Bishop's memorable quote was, "All I know is I don't see an iron rod co

I'm expecting to hear crickets with this question, but you never know. For those not from there, it was settled in BY's day by Mormons, so to this day, there is a big Morg presence there, something like 2 stakes and 12 or so wards for a population of probably 20,000.

Stuckinzion and 2thdoc, sounds like we could be triplets! Joined the church as a teenager, went to BYU, RM, married in the temple, 4 kids. Held callings as Exec Sec (3 diff times), twice in Bishopric, EQP, and finally, HC. I think I was also being "prepped" as the next bishop for the ward, when I told the SP my concerns and asked to be released. At the time, I was the senior member o

I can relate to what everyone else has said...among others, my callings were: Exec Secretary (3 times, 3 different wards/Bishops); EQP; Bishopric (2 different times); and finally on the HC for 2-3 years. I was always a good example of a "sheeple," so I didn't let anything ruffle me, such as random callings, talks, etc, but looking back, I can now recognize some "WTF?" momen

My TBM daughter's favorites are: Son of a Bishop!, Shut the F-ront Door!, and What the Hell-o Kitty are you talking about? She also has taught me: What starts with an "f", and ends in "uck?" Firetruck. What starts with a "p" and ends with "orn?" Popcorn. Funny enough, she gave her first sac talk on Sunday...topic? You guessed it, language. I told her

I live in Mcminnville, home of the Spruce Goose. TBM DW and kids will be gone for about a month in mid-June to mid-July, so I'm up for a meeting. Don't get the chance to schmooze with exmos very much!

So last night, someone from FOS (not anyone we know) called DW when I was gone and asked for her annual contribution. Apparently he said, "You gave $150 last year, and this year we're asking $175. How would you like to pay for that?" She told him that she'd have to ask me, since I'm in charge of the household finances. He called back 2 more times before she finally told him I wou

I'm a recruiter for financial services, and have constant pressure to find new recruits/hires. For better or worse, TBM's tend to make good advisors, as they generally have a good circle of influence, good work ethic, sales (oops, I mean mission) experience, integrity, etc. Anyway, lately, I was interviewing a TBM (guy I know who's in my Mom's ward's bishopric), and we were progressing to the

Agreed with the body language take! I'm an amateur body language expert, and you can tell with the closed posture, fidgeting, darting eyes, and licking lips that he's either lying/misleading at worst, or not telling the full story at best. I vote for the former. BTW, interesting how perspective changes...as a TBM, I'm sure I would have thought that was a great job by him! Not "my eyes

So DW's TBM family just had Russell Nelson visit them in southern Colorado a couple of weeks ago. While there, he interviewed stake leaders (including my BIL), and changed the Stake Pres. During one of the meetings, he remarked how faithful they were for coming to the meetings, and "blessed" them that they would receive enough moisture to have their crops grow, etc. (this area has had

I've been out for a while, but my wife is still very TBM. As many of you know, it's a dance when one partner is still TBM while you're not, and there are a lot of concessions to make. One of those concessions I've made is to continue to wear my garments. (She completely freaked out when I stopped, and couldn't sleep at night, etc.) I need an undershirt anyway (I work a white-collar job), an

Wow...that's fantastic! It closely parallels my own exit (I had been in the bishopric and was then on the high council), but is eloquently written much better and more clearly than I could have done. Bravo!

Went to church Easter Sunday with family, and there was a family of four (rare, I know--they probably needed church "assistance") that was just baptized that was confirmed in Sacrament meeting. Anyway, during the Dad's confirmation, the guy doing it suddenly said, "Now (Dad's name)--a warning to you. I warn you that Satan is not done with you yet. He will continue to tempt you

Just heard a statistic on the radio...40% of American couples are in sexless marriages. Now, that's not 40% get divorced--these are married couples that just don't have sex. Not sure if that number was inflated, but maybe after reading all the responses here, it might not be far off. As for personal input, my parents also never/rarely kissed, and I'm not sure if they ever had sex once while

It's all about following the brethren. Since none of them have facial hair currently, then TBMs should not, either. Follow the (current) Profit!! This was the fad in our Stake a few years back...SP came out in a P-hood meeting and basicallly told all the men to shave their facial hair. Interesting to note who shaved after that and who didn't. Those who did were blessed incredibly (insert ey
