I’ve been reading the articles this evening (I live in Melbourne). These make interesting reading. The Australian Tax Office doesn’t permit deductions for religious donations for any church, only for charitable donations where there is a true public benefit. The church is the 3rd largest deductible gift recipient behind Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders yet it has no employees or discernible

Nicholas Pierre Faivre, the former bishop of the Leura Ward of the Church of Latter Day Saints (sic), had his Blue Mountains home raided by the Federal Police on Monday. - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9137059/Nicolas-Pierre-Faivre-charged-alleged-sexually-explicit-messages-child.html Charged today (Tuesday Aus. time) with two counts of 'transmit indecent communications' to a minor.

Just checking news highlights and saw that NZ's labor party (left side of politics), seven weeks away from their general election, elected Jacinda Ardern their leader in a party room spill this morning (Tuesday Aus and NZ time) so she became the leader of the opposition and could well be the next New Zealand Prime Minister. She is also an exmo, having left the church in 2005 (25years old) as

Was driving through Pakenham, a south east suburb of Melbourne (Victoria) Australia and saw a for sale sign on the Pakenham ward building. I had no idea the church rented large buildings. I knew they rented some of the smaller facilities when there wasn't the membership but this ward once met at the stake centre at Narre Warren so I'd assumed that moving a ward called Pakenham into its own subu

I am still waiting on my paper copy and yesterday's debacle just confirmed it was the right choice Our family were Jedi's for last census but we weren't fully out of church by then. Will make sure we are No Religion this time around. Couldn't get over the pollies claiming it was generally a success while ABS stating there were DDOS attacks. Guess we'll never know the facts

I saw he was once known as Darran Page I'm trying to recall the guy as he's my age and in the next stake across from me though it would be 90 min drive away. Our paths must have crossed if he was active as a YSA but I just can't recall him and I don't remember the members bragging about him as a famous Mormon actor or film maker.

I am in Melbourne too just a few km's from the temple. Stopped attending about 3 years ago but had a heavy shelf for years beforehand. With a name like yours, do you live in the outer south east?

Hi Blakballoon We had tongan, samoan and spanish branches in Melbourne and the chinese ward met in the Caulfield chapel IIRC. Doncaster Ward had many chinese. It's been so long since I attended church so I don't know if the chinese ward was closed down and people returned to their home ward (Box Hill and Templestowe have many chinese living there) or what the situation was.

I know of whom you speak - Elder's initials were DW and his wife MW. I believe the ex bishop and his wife moved back to OZ. He was with CES both here and there (USA) but with declining health is now back under care in Tasmania I think. All the family bar one managed to get over to the USA on the strength of that union. I thought DW was pretty good guy but then I only ever saw him as a missiona

Hi Koriwhore Although I'm a Melbournian I hadn't heard about that but then I really don't recall any Vietnamese visiting Blackburn Ward. Nowadays Richmond and Springvale are the hubs for many things Vietnamese. Closer to home I'd go to Box Hill if I was in need of a vietnamese dish. My final year in high school was about 1/3 vietnamese and all but one of them had been boat people. I could imag

Here in Australia we have a spider with a red marking on its back. Funnily enough we call it the red back spider. Quite poisonous and generally found outdoors. Always need to shake your garden boots or squeeze the fingers of your gardening gloves if these are left outside. Our national broadcaster couldn't show a UK kidssshow called Peppa Pig as kids were told it was safe to pick up spiders wher

Certainly, speak next week. Must admit i am not too good with rugby. Being from the south, Melbourne , our game is aussie rules football so its only the international games i get in to. Didn't know France had an issue with their coach.

Israel Folau, once wheeled out as a representative of Mormonism in Australia, scored the first try (US would call a touch down) in the rugby international against France. I suggest former rather than Ex as I don't know his status but I understand his whole family left the church. It's an exciting game anyway so going back to it.

Just having a quick read of my wife's facebook site and one of her friends has reposted someone's thoughts on sustaining the church leaders (Qof12 specifically). I checked the guys page but he is certainly a TBM. Quote---- I see some members of my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) struggling today with sustaining our leaders on certain points, both of policy and of doct

It was from SLC North mission in 1984. I was told by the MP a few days before that I would be staying 4 days longer because it was cheaper to fly me home after conference since it was home to Oz. I didn't have the nerve to argue. It was fortunate also in that the missionary who converted my family in the 70's offered to take me on for a few days but the a-hole MP flatly refused both my request an

Hi there. I see R!chard K0rda once in a while but it has been quite some time. He was an ambulance officer. Is or was married to a former stake pres daughter. Not meaning anything by that its just been a while. B0yd P3ters was in the bishopric and my wife sees his wife every so often. Nice guy and family and enjoyed talking with him on the odd non church meeting. Now i've assumed there are no

1 - wife and i out together. I thought it was going to be a deal breaker but my wife had been harbouring doubts. We discussed concerns the day i first seriously brought it up and stopped attending as a family immediately. We cleared out the bookcase of church material and dumped it in the ward library the first Sunday and never looked back.

40 degrees in Melbourne today. Has been in the 20's until now. It is not usually this hot until mid to late Jan with Feb usually the hottest month. Fortunately humidity is not usually an issue this far south. Christmas will be 26and pleasant. That said i did enjoy white Christmas on my mission in Wyoming

Mrs Maxxedout here. I'm so sorry you were treated that way by people who are supposed to put God first and care for their fellow man. Even if they didn't agree with what you said, they could have at least expressed concern for you as a human being. We have a JW across the road from us and he has said straight out "Nice to know that even if we don't believe the same we can still be friends&

Congrats FredOi and family. It's been a long and eventful day for you all. Did the Bishop want to challenge you on any of the details or did he just take it in and then acknowledge you were leaving? I understand from your post he wouldn't try and rescue you but was wondering if he'd accepted everything was as explained or even whether it was all news to him. We are looking forward to how you

Hi FredOi - Mrs MAxxedout here. Yes, we did the fruit :) We have been thinking of you and know that whatever happens, it happens for a reason. As Hubby said, we felt so much better when we stopped going, mostly because I finally found out what all the stress was - Hubby finally told be what was bothering him and I stopped spending every Sunday in a nightmare, stressing because we were supposed
