I never get the flu shot because I don't trust the government after the swine flu they told everyone to get....and then said it was NOT for anyone with asthma or elderly. Problem was they didn't tell us that until a number of asthmatic children died. I had a child with asthma and just on a hunch did not give him that shot. Everyone has to do a personal risk/benefit analysis, but I reason thi

Because deep down, we all want to be a "good" child. What's more important is to be a good adult. You can see there are a variety of approaches to this, but let's take the one that focuses on you. As an adult, you have earned the right to own your time and you are seeing that this time is being requested back, sometimes with manipulative techniques. You are the only expert on you

Better yet, just call and tell them you are calling to find out who is the bishop of (your name). When they transfer you, ask about the membership status of yourself. Let us know what happens and good luck. You will never regret it--I promise. Kathleen

Those who claim religion is the source of our values, morals, etc, never seem to include the fact that religion has always supported social atrocities like slavery, misogyny, homophobia, killing perpetrators of minor crimes, maiming of perpetrators (even children), and the murdering of dissidents. Of course religion is involved. Look how quickly it changes when society changes. Kathleen

Many people find it comforting to hold onto "Jesus" or some form of Christianity. Then they see some of the same problems in the new church and start applying the same critical thinking to the teachings and there develops another "shelf" The shelf is the place you put facts in evidence as opposed to beliefs you are being taught. In my case, the same critical thinking th

Gotta be persecuted if you want to stay a victim. Evangelical Christians are the source of the alleged "War on Christmas." It is a proxy for "War on Us, the Christian Nation" which we never were. It started as the rise of Atheism, so they revived and strengthened God by putting "In God We Trust" on our money. This was a backlash to Madelyn Murray O'Hare. N

They will morph into the "tribe" vacancy that exists in the hearts of most people. I believe the future is represented by a friend's experience when he went to a family reunion. Per tradition, around the old campfire, his pioneer-rooted golden Mormon family gave their testimonies. My friend was the only one in the large group of adults and teenagers who described himself as a true

I remember when correlation came down, the church replaced all the teaching materials and COLLECTED your old Family Home Evening manuals and any SS lesson material you had. If you did not turn in something, the home teachers grilled us on what we had done with them. I came to understand that people had been donating the old materials to the Deseret Industries where apostates were picking up t

Many people thought atrophy would end Mormonism. They were thinking the older generation dies off and the young ones aren't that into it... A long time Mormon friend told me he met recently with his extended family for a reunion. They are descendants of pioneers. They went around and talked about their testimonies. My friend turned out to be the only "true believer" left.

I'm here. FCD disappeared a long time ago like he was hit by a truck. Raptor and I are friends and keep in touch. He's doing really well, has a really nice lady by his side who's been with him for years now. One of the reasons I don't post as much is because other people need to provide that advice and assistance as part of their own recovery. I'm completely recovered so I only speak u

Boy this hits close to home right now for me. I have an eight year old granddaughter who has extreme salt craving. Her mother is a believer in alternative medicine, no vaccines, herbs, etc., so she finally took her to a naturopath. She took some tests and found the child's blood was lacking in potassium and one other substance. The naturopath was humble enough to admit her limitations and r

I have more info to add, Steve. I left the church in 1983 over the convenient adding of black people to the priesthood when many lawsuits were pending...and the horrific truth about Joseph Smith and Mormon history. In 1989 I was a midlife student at Westminster College, working in the Communications Department contributing articles. I was also asked to help the College to find speakers o

It is a FACT that Pluto is a TNO. How do scientists traditionally present new discoveries? Peer reviewed white papers and/or publications in academic reviews. I submit that voting on a fact bolsters the false notion that facts can be randomnly disbelieved and that disbelief carries equal weight with facts submitted with evidence. Kathleen

Maintaining a separation between beliefs and facts is essential to clear thinking. A person can choose to believe whatever, doesn't make it true. A fact must have evidence before being considered true. One of the greatest travesties in science was the demoting of Pluto from it's planetary status in 2006 BY A VOTE! Onlookers were stunned because they were witnessing the creation of a

When you think about it, the dress code is a way to make sure your gender is obvious, so that people can treat you accordingly. Think more about it. What would happen to the glass ceiling, for example, if you kept your gender private at work? That's what I think the future will bring. And I'm thrilled. Imagine a world where you are paid exactly the same as a man and your name is Dale. O

The wives of Joseph smith site lays out the most revolting aspect of Joseph Smith's character - his unbridled lust and willingness to commit adultery and lie to his wife, his friends, really anyone. And if women refused his advances, he threatened them and followed through with calling them whores and destroying their characters. That Joseph Smith schemed and bargained to get into the pants

I disagree that facts are winning the day. I knew many of these facts and just kept right on paying and obeying. What I believe is responsible for the wonderful, tremendous and growing exodus of members is the openly cruel behavior of the church towards (first) blacks, then gays. Plus interfering in the California election and asking the members to pay for those efforts, the public excommuni

Being older, I don't know why old people go to Arizona. The heat kills me. I have lived in Oregon, Washington, Utah and California. Utah was the worst pain. I live in Washington now and climate change has only helped us. We were too wet before and now I think we have the nicest climate in the nation. It's moist and warm in the summer and the coldest it gets in the winter here by the w

If you choose to be. Freedom from Mormonism has several facets. Eventually, you can be totally free in your mind. It is detachment and it is mental. Many people experience the five stages of grief after leaving Mormonism: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. How long these stages last (and they do not come in order) is very individual. Hatred is an early stage, a normal r

25. BUT!
Now that cosmic rays have found a new "room" in the Great Pyramid, Mormons will claim that lack of evidence does not mean evidence does not exist. We just don't have the technology to find what God does not mean to be found. A wise man once told me you could not fight delusions with facts. The little man standing in his palm just moved to the other side of his hand because he has s

I left the church in 1983 and was a cofounder of one of the earliest exmormon group. This is my observation: most people who choose truth over comfort find the idea of keeping Christian comforting. Remember that discovering you were sold a bill of goods re Joseph Smith is a trauma. But you still have Jesus, right? Thing is, once you start researching and studying religious claims, it's h

I applied for a HUD building in 2010 after I retired in California. I applied to one place, a building in Piedmont, CA, a very nice area. They told me I might have to wait a year or more. Three months later they called me and asked if I could move immediately. I said I had to give one month notice and she said she would offer the unit to the next person who could move immediately. So of cou

The experience of being alive is to have "golden" moments, which you yourself create. In order to do that, you have to find out who you are and what you might enjoy. There are many, many choices of how to experience joy in life. As Mormons we were taught our purpose here was to find the gospel, and once we did that, keep from disqualifying ourselves from the life of real joy, which
