While it’s routinely accepted that Joseph Smith, Jr. was an egomaniacal philandering cheat who over-stretched his intellectual legs and got practically every Biblical interpretation wrong, the requirement for proxy baptism was one of his most colossal blunders. Rather than being a most mercifully charitable doctrine, it’s easily the most insidiously deceptive. Except for keeping many devou

Rain, but not nearly enough to refill the GSL. Also, no admonitions to conserve water.

May I suggest, and perhaps you've already considered it, but maybe you ought to e-mail this back your wife's former co-worker; you know, just to let her know how much you "appreciate" her e-mail.

From the subject article: "The Latter-day Saints president, Russell M. Nelson, the current prophet, has devoted much of his life to saving lives as a cardiac surgeon. But we do not need a revelation to save the life of Great Salt Lake. We need an immediate churchwide call for conservation to deliver urgent care to the lake and protect the health of those of us living in the heart of Mormon

Excellent summation Lot's Wife; better than any news article I've read so far. I thought Dickdorf's words of some slight interest; he seems especially worried about the "rising generation." And, of course, since the old codgers don't trust the youngsters to make their own life's choices, they've come up with a new version of ‘For the Strength of Youth’ subtitled ‘A Guide for M

Whatever the usual suspects (GC subjects) are, they tend to betray what’s currently bothering the brethren primarily. While pedophilia will surely go unmentioned, the sin of non-marital sex will be highlighted yet again. And, though they won’t want to infer limits on their Mormon-God’s power, they’ll probably mention that conserving water might not be a bad idea.

If you never had the misfortune to have read the Book of Mormon, here are a few good reasons why you shouldn’t bother: First of all, it's dry as dirt. Second, it's filled with nasty stories that little boys love, like chopping off heads and slashing off arms. Most of the details are cartoonishly implausible, like lopping off someone's head and then wearing their clothes around and pretendi

If the claims of the Book of Mormon were true, we would have every Mesoamerican researcher publishing papers saying "You know, it looks like we have a colony of Christ believing Hebrews here." And, over the years, that belief would get more and more evidence, not less. There would be evidences of massive battles and wars of extinction around 400AD, metal plates with odd, Egyptian-li

It's quite simply the perpetuation of the scam started by Joseph Smith and Co; then, passed down from one "First Presidency" to the next; Russ and the boys are currently in charge of keeping that old scam alive and they seem to be doing their best to fail--if only.

I believe that to tell the truth ineptly is to lie. Most arguments about the truth or falseness of ideas are really disagreements as to their importance. Truth is relative to time, place, and person, and an absurd emphasis may be necessary today to make tomorrow’s truth available.
