Do a search on his username and look at some of his older posts. He can be perfectly intelligible when he so desires. The current Ziller style is an artistic choice. CZ (admin)

Ziller has been contributing to the board for many years and has used different literary styles. His current shtick (the 'in b 4' stuff) is based on 4chan-ish internet memes. Think of it as an art form. Paraphrasing C. Montgomery Burns: I don't know much about art but I know what I hate. And I don't hate Ziller. You can see a lot of earlier Ziller material by doing a board search. Click on

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_E._Jones Steven Jones is neither stupid nor crazy. He's actually a very competent physicist who did work on muon-catalyzed fusion (sometimes still referred to as "cold fusion", however this one is a genuine effect that is impractical for energy generation). A better word to describe him might be "deluded". He is a classic example of w

Yes, there is a rule against links to personal blogs. Instead, we link to a list of them on the site's front page. If you'd like your blog to be included in that list, please send e-mail to the site owner, Eric, with a link to your blog and he will add it. CZ (admin)

Even if they are polite, they won't actually engage in the conversation. If their beliefs are challenged or they feel emotionally threatened in any way, they bear their "testimony" and leave. This kind of hit-and-run tactic is characteristic of someone who is insecure about what they believe. Mormon doctrine and beliefs are so bizarre that few members are willing to actually discuss the

Folks, Although I asked everyone to "respond kindly and politely", that doesn't mean you have to roll over and accept what this gentleman says. Feel free to answer with the truth. Most of us were in positions similar to his once. I'll start. Helaman, You may not realize it, but this site is a place for former members of the church. We are ex-Mormons, and no longer believe th

Normally we pull threads that turn toward homophobic arguments, but this one was based on a recent publication in a scientific journal and other posters have done a good job exposing the shoddy work and obvious political bias. Cherry-picking evidence is a common tactic that apologists often use to try to support otherwise unsupportable positions. Even faculty at prestigious universities someti

Call your banking institution as soon as possible to find out what the withdrawals were and to reverse them if necessary. These kinds of transfers are done through the ACH system, which is the "automated clearing house" for dealing with checks. Most checks and other payments and transfers are handled this way. For example, if you make a payment to your credit card company over the ph

I was listening to BBC radio this morning and they were talking about today's probable announcement that the LIGO experiment has discovered gravitational waves. This would be a major advance in physics, and the announcers were speculating about who might win the Nobel Prize for the work. One name they mentioned was Kip Thorne, a physicist who specializes in General Relativity and who co-founded t

Beginners should avoid astrophotography. That's for professionals and quasi-professional fanatics. Without investing a lot of time and money you'll be disappointed by the results, especially in this era when anyone can download spectacular astronomical images from the internet for free. Good advice for beginners is to get a quality pair of 7x50 or 10x50 binoculars and start getting familiar wi

If I had won, we would have moved the board to the cloud, hired a full-time developer and Susan I/S would have a six-figure job swatting trolls. The fact that I didn't win is proof that the Morg conspired with Satan and the lottery-industrial complex to keep all this good stuff from happening. CZ (non-wealthy admin)

The chapel LAN seems to say to me, "Shhh! Don't tweet." For this is a thought controlled place to meet. Shhh! Don't tweet. There are many sites we can surf online, we post and text and watch Youtube and Vine. But when we log on the chapel LAN: Shhh! Don't tweet.

From my TBM days, I recall apologists gloating about how writing on metal plates was an ancient custom and that there's no way Joseph Smith could have known about it. Maybe the custom was not so unusual after all. I just found an example of such writing that occurred not long before Smith's time and not far from where he was raised. It consists of a single plate of precious metal, in this case

Eclipses (both solar and lunar) occur multiple times a year, but some of these may be partial or only viewable in places that are remote and unpopulated. The 18 year cycle, to which you are referring, is the Saros, which has to do with patterns of eclipses. After approximately 18 years, the pattern of eclipses repeats itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saros_(astronomy) There are other e

Sonofabish and anonerd appear to be correct. This is is simple "mailto" tag on the poster's e-mail address. When you click on a link with a mailto: tag, your computer tries to send an e-mail to the specified address and may launch your e-mail client. All of that is happening on your own machine and you haven't been hacked. I created a test posting here that shows the same behavior:

I read it the same way, Nightingale. I figured it was headlined because he was one of these wacko religious politicians who brags about their virginity, and was finally about to tie the knot to some naive and trusting child. I was right about the naive and trusting part, anyway.

A lot of exmos were involved in apologetics before they were able to fully abandon the lies. As a community, we tend to embrace those who come out of the shadows, no matter what they were doing to support the church previously. The question is less about the exmormon community and more about Dr. Peterson himself. Could he swallow his pride enough to admit that he'd been wrong before? I see it

An angel with a flaming sword appeared to Eric and told him to start a web site. Although the code was written in reformed HTML, Eric was able to read it with Google (TM) Urim and Thummim, which was an early prototype of Google Glass. (That's really a lie: he used an O'Reilly seer stone that he found at the local Walmart. At least the book had a picture of a seer stone on the cover.) Even tho
