Wouldn't it be quicker to list all the doctrines that are not ridiculous?

I believed everything hook, line and sinker. I believed the prophets had literally seen christ. We were told back in the 70s that he walked the through the temples at night, I even remember being told he walked the corridors of the MTC. I was utterly devastated when it finally dawned on me (30 years too late) that none of them had seen christ, I had truly and deeply believed. I'm torn b

I adore him. I met him at church in LA when we were both about 18, I was working as a nanny for his eldest brother's children (I'm from London, UK). Tom was an outstanding individual even then. Very genuine, caring and warm; and utterly charming and gorgeous. Just incredibly nice and always had a 'greatness' about him without even trying. I agree, I love his 'I'm an ex mormon' video; he's

We taught a sweet old lady, the nevermo mother of one of the members in the ward*, and after her interview the baptism was postponed. Turned out she was the owner/madam of a local brothel! * Halifax Ward, Huddersfield Stake, UK; would have been around June/July 1985.

I've never tried but suspect I too would be rubbish at rewriting hymns however, on the rare occasions I've gone to church in the last nine years, I've entertained (for want of a better word) myself by adding 'in the bath' or 'in bed' to the end of each hymn title. PS I know this is nothing new. It was a tip I read on here ages ago. :o)

I'm not sure how Martha Beck would describe herself but I'd say she is a life coach and author. I have read some of her books, not all, perhaps three or four; I have enjoyed them immensely and have appreciated her insight. She writes with wisdom and wit and is a class act in my view. The first book of hers that I read was her story of leaving the church. I'd not long left the church and appr

Not that either Steve or Tom need my support but they are both kinda cool. I met Tom at an exmo gathering in London many years ago and we have kept in touch ever since, meeting up whenever circumstances allow. I keep meaning to check in with him to see what this October announcement malarkey is all about; I have no doubt he's up to something and I can't vouch for him highly enough. Then agai

It gets worse. There is now a picture on FB of the scene, with a picture of jesus with children superimposed over the top of it.

Every 21 May, my wedding anniversary, I think of my ex-husband and his new wife. Technically we're still 'sealed' in the temple. Just think, if the church is true after all AND I become faithful, we can all live together hapilly ever after in mormon heaven. I don't think they need to worry unduly about any of that happening.

I was on my mission at the time. I was in the UK, so we didn't hear much about it. My MP briefly referred to it at Zone Conference and suggested it was further proof the church was true and satan was doing his best. I believed him of course, hadn't learnt to think for myself then. Fast forward nearly 20 years and the whole Mark Hoffman saga was on my list of issues that made me realise the

Yes, in the 70s we were told we'd been held back until the last days. Every bunch of teenagers is told that old chestnut!

I recall they had it here in the UK, they suggested it for a man in the ward who was dislexic, said it would help him. Have no idea whether it did or not but I remember the program. Wasn't widely known over here.

Was totally TBM. Converted at age 10, baptised at 12, was pretty much a text book molly - mission, temple marrage, the whole nine yards. Really truly completely and utterly believed. It felt like my heart broke into a thousand peices when I realised the church wasn't 'true'. Recovered now, well, as much as I'll ever be. Can honestly say I've never been happier. It's been a bloody pai

Hi Ragnar and librarykim2 - Please email me on claire.ferguson@yahoo.co.uk and let's try to pull some dates together to meet up during your trips. If we can figure out some dates we can put the word out over here and see if we can't get other people to join too. Curious - GayRM and I went to see the show in March. We loved it although I cried at the end, it triggered a lot of painful emotions

Following on from your comment on the other thread, London is great (my little home town!). If you get a clear day, or night, you can get a good view from the Eye. If you want to catch up for coffee, with GayRM and I, when you're over let me know and I'll see if I can get to London. I go down quite often, currently living in Derbyshire. We (GayRM and I) have met up with quite a few visiti

I lived in LA in 1981/82 and I heard the view many times, that SWK was being kept alive by god to prevent ETB becoming prophet; from what I recall it wasn't a joke, people really seemed to believe that. So much so, it coloured my view of ETB hugely. When he became prophet I was serving my mission, and my companion at the time was a relative of ETB. I remember the day the Mission President ca

I think they take their lead from this board and other areas of criticism. How many times have posters on here commented that the church is all about Joseph Smith (e.g. Merry Smithmas) and not JC. Hey presto, it's being fixed. They have figured out the secret to maintaining a healthy business is change and adaptability.

http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21545819 Seems there is a problem everywhere as to how to count the membership of a church. Was mildly amused that the LDS method was mentioned, I had mistakenly believed it was not known outside mormondom.
