I have thought for some time now that the only way forward for TSCC is to adopt the notion that the BoM and BoA are metaphoric instead of literal.

I suppose Mormonism could trigger OCD. But I also think those predisposed to OCD tendency could be drawn to Mormonism, making participation in Mormonism more of an effect than a cause.

Not really, but this reminds me of an episode years ago. I was on active duty in the military, and perusing the Combined Federal Campaign catalog. I was delighted to see TSCC listed. Well, as I recall, the following year charities had to provide financials to stay in CFC. TSCC was gone.

I don't know that I believed that stuff. I don't know that I emphasized it... I understand the philosophical background behind it, but I don't know a lot about it, and I don't think others know a lot about it.

"What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" - Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 270 "...all the priests who adhere to the sectarian religions of the day with all their followers, without one exception,

If I'm not mistaken, virtually all of those photos are leaders calling on the Pope, not him calling on them.

Can anyone name any other denomination that works the politics so much? Here we see some senior LDS people proudly presenting the president of Nepal with the first Book of Mormon printed in Nepali. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865687841/Church-leaders-deliver-first-Book-of-Mormon-in-Nepali-to-Nepal.html Aside from just being courteous to visiting Americans, why would the presiden

Some people are more trusting than others. Some are downright gullible. I think this comes into play when the missionaries inevitably warn them "And don't pay attention to those horrible lies you will read online about The One True Church." A critical thinker would've flare on that and gone immediately to the internet. A gullible person buys into it, and may even at that point f

Her statement was: I don't believe Hurricane Harvey is God's punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than "climate change." So let's get this straight. It is more likely for a major meteorological event to be caused by a deity ticked off at a city for electing a lesbian than it is for a major meteorological event to be caused by a long-term me

Start a blog and post every provable inconvenient fact you can regarding Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, Brigham Young, and everything else that comes to mind that is factual and embarrassing to the LDS church. Then tell all your friends--especially TBMs--that you have started a blog and you want them to read it. Stand by for being ex'd.

I have never understood what the expression "The church is true" even means. Allegations are true (or false). A story is true (or false). A testimony at a trial is true (or false). A statement is true (or false). How can an institution be "true"?

"The church" is nothing more than its people. So if the people are imperfect, so is it.

This from Mormonleaks. The document is a stake president's report on a Snufferite and I find it fascinating. It is interesting to me how blind obedience is so transparent. More, the sucking up of the members to their leaders as they rat out the miscreant is amazing: https://mormonleaks.io/wiki/documents/7/7a/Report_from_Stake_President_on_Individual_Remnant_Believer.pdf

I think it's pretty obvious. Mormon men love to gush how very enlightened and open to change they are. That's easy when you know it's never going to happen.

"Are we even allowed to go to these being non-mormon how do you tell them your non-mormon without being offensive?" Oh, you are MORE than allowed to go to these "being non-Mormon." And as soon as you make know you are not a Mormon you will be showered with more friendly gestures than you can stand! Every story you tell will be riveting. Every anecdote you offer will be H

So TSCC has changed its policy on who can officiate in the temple. From the article: "Until now, single men could serve as temple ordinance workers through age 30. Women already were eligible to serve beyond age 31. "Divorced men and women previously were ineligible. The updated policy requires no waiting period following a divorce." http://www.deseretnews.com/artic

Its main purpose is to neither be carefully read nor to explain away objective criticisms of Mormonism. Its purpose is to put online page after page of drivel arranged by topic that the faithful masses can scan, be impressed with the volume, and thereby satisfy themselves that some smart guys have explained the problems all away with lots of words.

You are out. Once they received your letter you are done. They are trying to guilt you by sending an ecclesiastic leader. - You can do nothing (and know you are out). - You can contact them in return and say "I do not wish any contact. Please process our resignations immediately." - You can wait for your stake president to contact you and say "No need for a visit. Pl
