I liked this comment best: "The Bible itself is a case in point. For example, modern sites for only 55 per cent of the place names mentioned in the Bible have been identified..." Wow. So the Bible has only 55% of its sites identified. Can he (or anyone) point to even ONE Book of Mormon site that has been conclusively identified?

He was "pedophiling" as a man, not as a prophet.

I think their tag line says it all: "Defending Mormonism by providing well-researched answers to challenging questions within a faithful context." Within a "faithful context" indeed.

It was apparently unnamed until earning its new name (pun intended). This is from Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumorah ): "The hill, which was unnamed prior to 1829, is situated a few miles from Joseph Smith's boyhood home on a farm that was then owned by a local farmer, Alonzo Sanders."

I think you listed it: BoA. But as you pointed out, to a TBM, there is NOTHING that is proof the church is false. There is always some twisted FAIRLDS/FARMS logic that can be played back to explain it all.

Molly, No need to leave voice mail that "I am or not a full tithe payer." They'll figure that out.

As others have pointed out, the bishop makes a declaration on your behalf if you do not show. No big deal. As a former bishop I would add that the real purpose of tithing settlement is to gain one more moment of obedience and subservience from you. Those who attend tithing settlement are those who are wanting to show they are fully on board. There is nothing to do with money that has to be

A Pew study reported here suggests "the moment" is over, and not much changed in the public's perception of Mormonism. http://ldsmag.com/article/1/11932 I especially liked this: "Eight-in-ten Americans (82%) say they learned little or nothing about the Mormon religion during the presidential campaign, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. Most Americans still are un

I had never heard the "100 Earths" comment. But from an astronomy perspective, even if you accept latest (optimistic) theories of how much Dark matter exists between the Earth and the Moon, you have 24 trillion (24 x 10^12) metric tons. The Earth's mass? 6x10^21 metric tons. Not even close.

Sure, it was "self reporting." But Utah was no different than any other state in that. So unless you can make a case that Utahans self report obesity at a lower rate than others, I think the point stands that Utah isn't as bad as most states. But to your greater point: Absolutely. We have a crisis of obesity in the United States.

As much as I detest Beck and Mormonism, Utah is actually pretty good when compared to most other states: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

Never heard that, but it tracks. The far greater question to me is how exactly those tokens so identically mirror those of the Freemasons. The apologists have no good answer for that.

For nearly every 18 year-old missionary who is going out now, there will be one less 19 year-old that would have gone out later. (Yes, there are a few whom they will get as 18 year olds who would not have gone later, but I think those numbers are marginal.) This is eating seed corn. There will be zero long-term gains.

#2 is something I see sometimes in on-line forums where the church is discussed. Inevitably someone will post something critical of the church, and on occasion a TBM poster (usually when losing an argument) will throw out "I am so glad you are posting things critical of God's true church. Every time you do, people are drawn to learn more about the Gospel." Hogwash.

I sure don't see a lot of difference between this: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/sep/27/north-korea-appears-give-military-rank-kim-son/?page=all And this... http://www.idahostatesman.com/2012/11/18/2350933/9000-teens-celebrate-boise-lds.html

So I guess we have given up on finding anything to support the BofM, so we are now trumpeting finding 19th century things. http://www.idahopress.com/news/state/s-baptistry-unearthed-at-provo-temple-site/article_eb598b1a-ed6a-5f07-a1e1-b8710dcafb00.html

The leadership of the LDS church is misguided, but they aren't stupid. They KNOW that with few exceptions, every 18 year-old that goes out now is one 19 year-old who won't be going out in a year. This is in my view ALL about: 1. A gasping effort to boost recruitment of new members 2. Vectoring 18 year-olds to missionary service before the world can corrupt them

I served for 29 years. I came home alive. Many did not. For anyone to suggest a mission in any way is the equivalent of military service is an insult to veterans everywhere. Shame in them.

I am doing my 9th in January. Packing carbs needs to start well before the night before. I eat light, some pasta, and stay away from carbonated stuff and sugar. I eat half a banana at race start. I have found I need to control how much fluid I take in the race. I do no fluids for the first ten miles. Have fun!

I have gotten to the point that I think every single word out of Mitt's mouth is chosen to further his political ambition. Honesty, I truly believe, is low on his list of reasons to say things. In this case, I think he was clearly trying to downplay the suggestion that he might get a call from the prophet telling him what to do. And in the overall sense, I doubt he even thinks of whether &

The First Amendment says Congress can't pass a statute limiting free speech. It does not apply to other organizations. The LDS church is free to limit speech among its membership, as despicable as doing so is. What is amazing is that members simply bow their heads and say "Yes."

In my view, one of the biggest considerations in selecting new members of The 15 must be how reliable they are likely to be at keeping the secrets secret. They probably discuss it as the candidate's "discretion." I don't see this happening anytime soon, but who knows. Uchtdorf and Bednar are surely cut of a new (younger) bolt of cloth. They may not be able to keep the BS meter fro

I know it well. In my experience (EQP, bishop, etc.), the problem is, no one ever wants to say "Wait a minute." There is seldom anyone in Ward Welfare Council, PEC, Ward Council/Correlation, presidency, or any other meeting willing to say anyone else's idea is bad, even when it is. "I was visiting teaching, and they NEED a new coffee table." "What a nice miss

I think they got put in their positions because they have been screened every step of the way for loyalty. If they were offered some astronomical amount of money they would use walking away from it to demonstrate how truly they believe. Besides, what do they need money for? They are set for life. When Elder Bednar came to a stake conference where we lived shortly after being called as
