We have a large Calvinist Dutch population here in southern Alberta that actively preaches against vaccines, plus some of the Anabaptists (Hutterian Bretheren and Mennonites) also have very low vaccination rates and are the source of several measles outbreaks in recent years but still flock into Lethbridge with their huge families to shop an mingle...and spread whatever they're carrying.

I showed up at Ricks in September 66 about as naive to Mormon culture as an 18 year old could be. I knew I wasn't going on a mission and learned early on that virtually every girl on campus that wasn't already in a relationship was under orders to find and get engaged to a returned missionary (they arrived in early Oct). And that's pretty much how it played out.

I am not aware or sure if any churches here opened to the homeless during our recent brutal cold snap. A week ago it was -41 here with a -50 wind chill. The public library opened it's doors as a warming center. I know of one death as a result of the cold. My best friend growing up was raised Anglican but us JW now since marrying his second wife. We are still friends but never discuss religion. Last year he and his wife were at dinner with my girlfriend and I and after the wine was poured at raised my glass for a toast and told abruptly "we don't do toasts". Awkward.
