The "founding fathers" of Mormonism were all Freemasons. Joseph Smith & Co. all believed that Freemasonry came from ancient rites of Solomon's temple and all that, and Smith said he restored the original rites. Even some Freemasons still believe in the supposed antiquity of the rites, but they are all just stylized rites originating in medieval times. At any rate, Mormons originally

Mormons have no end of fun with non-LDS people who follow some televangelist, particularly thos who get caught with their pants down but then garner the same respect afterwards. Like Jerry Falwell for instance: After his scandal, he cried publicly, and people exclaimed, "Oh, he done wrong, but he's still a man of God!" Mormons laugh and laugh over things like this. However, if a Morm

It was valuable to have such a straight-thinking individual within the church who was kind of on my side but still good LDS. But I'm glad he's getting out. I always wondered how he could stay in in the first place.

11858. Only joking.
See all the friends you got here? You wouldn't have had that many if you had actually joined Mormonism. It's been fun to watch you. I remember your first post here. Good thing you never made that leap into the LDS church. I'm sure you would be hurting now. You know, virtually any other church will do. It's good not be in a cult. The LDS church has damaged a whole lot of us. I don't feel so da

Now I must defend my manhood. I will cover my privates and talk down to you in a gruff manner that I may intimidate you. For I have the PREESThood. Actually I don't. But I did. I was a high priest and did the usual stuff. It was awful. I had no credibility as an LDS micromanager because I could not micromanage. I did the opposite--I was always, like, "Yeah, whatever. I don't want to tell you

When I had achilles tendonitis my tendons actually squeaked when I squeezed them. I was in AF training at the time, and they were going to re-cycle me unless I could keep up, so I toughed it out. A podiatrist I eventually went to said I did a very bad thing. Sometimes you even have to be casted in order for them to heal. So first of all, I'd say--DON'T RUN! Let it heal up. Keep your feet up, s

It's done in a special font down in the bowels of the temple. Generally it is done by youth groups. They are told it's a "special spiritual experience," but few will tell you that they thought it actually was. In the old days when there were fewer LDS temples, there would actually be week-long temple caravans full of youth from a stake or region like Portland, for instance. They wou

You said "West," so I thought somewhere beyond TX. Texas is certainly west of you, but THE West is elsewhere--as long as you ask us Westerners. I was going to encourage you to stop in at Temple Square and see if all of us weren't telling the truth about the creepiness of the Mormon church. Tell you what you can do: Stop in at the FLDS Yearning for Zion Ranch near San Angelo. Have the

I can see them now going, "WTF?? Who the hell is he talking about??" Hey, anything to confuse them and make their day more frustratin'. Oh, Lordy! I get so giddy when I think about resignations from the church! And I giggle inside thinking about them opening up all those envelopes--which I hope are plentiful. You already know how good the LDS church looks in your rear-view mirror

Good luck! Gallstones and such are so very painful. (Be thankful you had it taken out in this day and age before they cut open your entire abdomen. Happened to my MIL in the '80s.)

Checkout the comments on the Trib article about the Book of Mormon musical leading Tony nominations. I comment there a lot, but the system's not working for me now, and I can't log into the Trib (Disqus) or anything. Here's the link: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/entertainment/51740601-81/bookofmormon-southpark-matt-trey.html.csp I like things like: "In a couple of years no one will

A couple of years ago one of you folks from Australia--maybe Simon, in fact--posted a thread about some poor woman who dared to use a visual aid in a sacrament meeting talk in church. Then some visiting leader stood up, took over the pulpit and said that he felt constrained by the spirit or something to remind people that they were not to use visual aids in sacrament meeting talks, and he removed

Some people here have successfully completed the whole process within a week. Mine took only three. SLDrone, who, due to his church connections, was able to deliver it directly to a GA and completed his within minutes. Of course, Mormons are seldom known for having their sh*t together. Maybe Aussie bishops are even worse. BTW, are you actually a doctor? A physician? GP? Dr. of Letters? Just

I'd have to do a Google search all over again, and I don't have time right now (at work). But those who were present at the dedication of the Kirtland temple tell a much different story of heavy drinking and high spirits.

Rather than "having your name removed," choose "resignation." You see, the church insists on calling it "having your name removed." That is an LDS thing, because they refuse to accept resignation as an option. In fact, if you choose to "have your name removed," it may still culminate in a court of love in absentia, then they excommunitcate your for apostasy

This guy was whining back a few weeks ago when the whole BoM musical thing hit the fan, how unfair the musical was to Mormons and how disrespectful. (You know Mormons--the whole world has to move out of their way and soothe and stroke them.) I reminded him that the LDS church had always wanted, and had even promised, that someday the Book of Mormon would be known by all nations. Now is their shin

"Trying to figure out Mormon 'doctrine' is like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall." Some guy in a SLTrib comment thread the other day did not like me pointing out that the Book of Mormon contains no Mormon "doctrine," and that you learn nothing new in the temple. We went back and forth for a couple of days, him getting more and more angry and finally calling me a "Ju

I'd hate to think what your stake president would have to say about it. My guess is that he wouldn't approve. I love to state the obvious. It's a thing I have.
