Brigham Young, for one: "The Christian God is our devil!" I wonder how the church dodges this one.

I spent 43 years in communications Intel, and have been to DLI in Monterey 3 times for two languages (Chinese and German). Remember that both NSA and CIA would not give you the required security clearance (TOP SECRET / SCI) if you had ever smoked cannabis. So back in the day, both agencies recruited heavily from BYU. But that all changed somewhere in the 1990's, and you can now get the clearance

Shouldn't be asking where Schrodinger is getting this info. A more accurate question would be to ask where the church is getting *their* numbers.

The fact that it's anonymous will not do anything to protect anyone grassing out another person. The snitch will be found out. When I was at BYU, i had a real unorthodox roommate who had been having sex with his girlfriend. I know because he told me. The girl's roommates went to the bishop and told him they thought she might be having sex. So the bishop called me in and told me to watch my roo

Contact the press, like F.A.Z., or someone. The church would really react to that, oder?

I see them lots. We live some 45 minutes north of Portland, and the ads are Portland-specific, and are always telling people to come worship Christ with them. And mostly they just call the church by its short moniker, "The Church of Jesus Christ". It's all very dishonest. I add the laughing emoji, and comment that it's just Mormons trying to recruit them, not some mainstream Christian s

I used to know these people very well. I don't what to think. The thing of some well educated Mormons going off the deep end like this just can't possibly make sense.

It is simply Putin using antique tactical measures of human waves of untrained soldiers to win a battle. Like Putin, Rusty et al. have no handle on modernizing the missionary (such as they are) force to do anything more positive than irritating the public at dinner time

I was taught that if you had any mental maladies, it's because of some unknown or unconfessed sin. But going on a mission could cure you! Just like a gay guy marrying a woman would turn himself around because of all the straight sex.

The so-called "new hymnal" w came out in 1985. It replaced an even worse older hymnal. DW collects Mormon hymnals, so we have the editions going back to the 1800's. They were filled with really sketchy songs like, "Where Is My Boy Tonight?", a song mourning a son who had left the church. The one just before the current one featured what could only be called a Clancy Brothers p

By "fancy dress," do you mean "in costume," or in a tuxedo? IOW, are you talking like a Brit, or like an American. Sorry. I'm old and things confuse me.

Note: I'm sorry to have anyone read the NY Post. Deepest apologies. https://nypost.com/2023/10/28/news/mormon-mom-spring-thibaudeau-arrested-after-taking-son-16-to-alaska-because-she-thought-he-was-chosen-by-god-in-second-coming-of-christ/ Sometimes you know a person who makes national news; mostly you don't. This woman's father was our bishop when we were in the Wiesbaden military ward.

I got them handed to me during a mandatory non-denominational church service. Afterwards, some officer representing the Mormons got us together and gave us each the set.

I'm still wondering how the Corporation of the President deals with the fact that humans were in the Americas 23,000 years ago. See, when I was in "seminary" in the 1960's, the BoM preface stated that the Lamanites et al. were the original inhabitants of North America. That became a point of laughter to the public, so they changed the preface to Lamanites et al. being "among the fi

What they are doing is setting up marriages for failure, maybe, in fact, deliberately. Get the believing spouse away from the non-believing, and all that. When I left, the bishop did not interfere. Now, these many years later, goes to church enough for three adults. At any rate, driving wedges is sorta their thing, innit?

It's all the church has to threaten and control you with. If they threaten you enough, they are just looking for more control and money.

The LDS chapel in Enterprise, OR, which is situated next to the tiny airport, was required to remove its spire from the rather low roof, so they took it down and placed it on a concrete slab on the front lawn of the church. Looks pretty stupid. I think the airport looks pretty stupid, as well, for having the low-roofed church with the 5 foot spire remove the spire "due to safety concerns.&qu

She was only 14. When the church had to finally admit this (although all of this had been more or less public because Family Search had Smif down for 24 wives) , the church took issue with people saying she was only 14. Their defense? "She was just shy of her fifteenth birthday."
