Any comments deleted were due to veering over the line into party politics - not allowed at RfM as that is not the aim of this board. Due to the new rule that some politics may be OK, and we try to give decent latitude, we get topics like this. The obvious political comments are still not permitted - as political discussion always, always, always causes arguments and bad feelings between poste

Perhaps this poster inadvertently arrived at the wrong board. That explanation for their presence would make some sense. Many of us know it can take time to process what's going on at church. Plenty of people have stopped by here as current members and read enough to make the move out of the church. Eric (Board Founder/Admin) has often said that all are welcome here except preachers and a

Beth is correct (as so often happens). You are encouraged to change the subject line to reflect what you want to say about the opening post's subject line/topic. It makes the thread more interesting than if all the sub lines are the same one. Sometimes a topic forks off into other points (not totally different subjects) just like a conversation between a group of people.

Refresher re basic posting rules at RfM. This is a discussion board set up to discuss Mormonism and to help those with questions, anyone considering leaving the Mormon Church, and those who have left and seek information and support. Mormons, ex-Mormons and people who have never been Mormon are all welcome. (No preaching is allowed by anyone, of Mormonism or any other faith. You are permitted

RfM rules about swearing are: 1. No swearing in subject line of post 2. Include warning in subject line if your post contains swearing - i.e. "What are the Big 3 doing today? (swearing)" 3. Using symbols (i.e. #) to replace one or more letters in a swear word is still considered swearing - needs warning in subject line (with warning there is no need to use symbols in place of

39. PS
The reason we left some posts up in this thread that may otherwise have been deleted (eg: name-calling) was to preserve context, as I previously mentioned. We think the topics of racism and "sins of the fathers" are important ones to discuss re Mormonism and life in general. We ask that all posters focus on the topics and not on arguing with each other about them.

NB: For the record, this thread went way over the 60 post limit as it was fast moving and no mods saw it in time to close it before it received over 100 replies. Also, Admin does not "scrub" a thread at a poster's request. Moderator action is only taken when merited by board guidelines not being observed. Re this thread, which developed into a contentious topic, some name-callin

When someone posts their most tragic life events here, the answers they receive from fellow posters may offer a crumb of support in their most difficult days when really nothing can take away the pain. it is hardly the time to start a heated discussion about various beliefs or other off topic type exchanges in direct response to that post. Whether the loss/event happened this day or 29 years a

To all posters: It pays to be ultra cautious with giving out IRL information online, as hopefully we have all heard by now. Please avoid doing so at least on RfM. We also do not allow posters here to give out the personal info of others. Plenty of posters like to get in touch off the board. That's great. But don't ever give out your phone # or address online and always be aware of just how muc

Anybody connected to, or with an interest in, Mormonism, is welcome here. Many nevermos have friend or family connections or just an interest, for whatever reason, in Mormonism. There is no special qualification for becoming part of this group. Nobody has status that is better than someone else's. The only people asked to go elsewhere are (1) Mormon apologists (we know where we can read their

BAA: I am a moderator here. Your comment on Boner's thread was deleted due to you including what would seem to be your IRL street address, which is never a good idea and not allowed here for safety reasons for the poster (you). Also not a good idea is to take a negative interaction from the board out into your life (by challenging people to fights or other similar comments). To protect you, other

RfM doesn't have too many major rules but one of the primary ones is that no Mormon apologists are allowed to post here. It is one little space on the World Wide Web where questioning Mormons and fed up exmos do not have to see or read Mormon apologetics. Participants in this space do not want to read the usual apologetic discussions. Heard it. Seen it. Don't need to keep going through it all

When a topic has been "asked and answered" several times in a short period of time and/or is overtaking the main theme here which is helping people answer questions about Mormonism and deal with being an exmo, or a prospective one, then we sometimes ask for a temporary shutdown and return to more Mormon-specific discussions. Which is what we are doing with this topic for now. Another

Hi Agnes B. Thanks for your post. Please don't give out a phone number. Other information like city is likely going to be published so no restriction there. As for contacting news outlets, that's your choice.

Greetings. Please remember the board rules re using profane language: It is not allowed in subject lines. It is permitted within your post but you must indicate in your subject line that there is profanity in your post. (Just include "Language" or "Language Warning" or similar in your sub line). The reason is due to the main purpose of the board which is to respo

Please tone down the party politics. Eric explained he would allow some politics - if the topic is related to Mormonism, by the originating poster. That is not happening. And we're veering more and more into discussing current US politics only. The very thing we have wanted to avoid for RfM's life to date. RfM is for the purpose of helping people learn about Mormonism and to get their question

This thread would ordinarily be deleted due to party politics. As the limited discussion of politics is now being allowed here on a trial basis, we will use this thread to try and explain the guidelines further. (Please also see the two recent Admin threads about this). The reasons this thread doesn't pass the No Politics rule (that is still in effect when it comes to party politics and most c

The loosening of the No Politics rule is on a very short trial basis. Only by staying away from party politics will your post avoid deletion. (Hint: If the name of a politician is in your post - **zap** and so too with most current events and events related to the US election/transition/officials/hearings/appointees and other government types). The board's purpose is to help those questioning and

Eric said: "We will allow some leeway in political posts insofar as they pertain to religion. If this gets out of hand, we will stop again." The easiest way to test the no politics rule is as follows: (1) Is it partisan politics (on one side and against another) and (2) Does it mention current political leaders - especially along with comments on political policy. If so, your p

Moderator Note: I did a small edit to Steve's sub line, at his request, and therefore made the same edit in every reply. That is why all respondents so far will see an indication of a mod edit in their post. That is the explanation - and nothing else was changed in any of the posts (nor in Steve's).

Topping, again, because apparently some people haven't seen the rule or this thread. What other explanation could there be for the continued political posts cropping up like dandelions on a hot summer day?

Please respect this board, Eric, its founder, its many posters and the hard-working, busy mods (who actually do have a life as well as helping out on this board) by remembering and adhering to the rule against posting political comments at RfM. This board is aimed at those questioning Mormonism, those having recently left Mormonism and those considering, questioning and recovering from negative e

Re the FL shooting and LA Gay Pride: Discussion of current events is usually discouraged for various reasons. Sometimes we make exceptions. Re the shooting in FL, condolences and personal reflections (eg: PapaKen's comment) are acceptable but please avoid politics (includes US elections past and present and the topic of gun control). Please also avoid extreme generalizations against specific grou
