I know that snail mail we received in the Philippines was monitored. All letters were sent to the mission office and then distributed about the mission once a week.

I do remember this even as recently as when I joined in 1995. The Stake centers I was told could be easily renovated into temples during the 2nd coming.

You sound like you are more than a snob, you sound like a pretentious, pompous, jerk. What does uneducated mean to you? There are many forms of education and it sounds like you equate formal education to good people which is very short sided. The rudest people I know are the ones with some sort of degree(I purposely didn't use the word "educated" here because a degree does not

I know plenty of people who call themselves Catholic who wouldn't agree with much of what the Pope says. However, my Catholic family is pretty strict when it comes to the Pope and his teachings. They have let the thinking be done for them. I don't think any of them were Virgins when they got married. Even my dad and his second wife co-habitated for over a year waiting on MY parents annu

The BOM is claimed to be the most perfect book. I expect the book to be perfect because it is the only way for the infallible human to know about the un-falliable god.

I like the grocery store gift card idea, or one from a restaurant. I loved getting cookies in my care packages even if they were a month old by the time they got to the Philippines. Socks, maybe a new tie(the same old ones get very boring). Jerky. Hygiene products. I think some newspaper clippings is completely expected. If he was into sports, or maybe just the front page from his home to

It wasn't hard for me. I was very annoyed by the people who tried to tell me that they had a hard time speaking English instead of "the language." I refused any and all efforts to make me feel like I needed to go onto the next step as soon as possible. (They never said marriage, just not to be stagnant) I never saw my mission as some spiritual high so maybe that helped. I got ho

Everything! I've loved it since I was a kid and never lost the magic. I can't wait to have a family to share it with!

I don't understand. Maybe the gift has nothing to do with your reaction to it, but I think you are over reacting. Maybe your reaction is from some other hurt though. Why not understand where the gift came from a little better? Our loved ones believe something, or believe they believe something, and they show their love by trying to pass that on. Requiring them to change for us, is no diffe

If I am wrong and when I die I am face to face with the Mormon god, I will tell him to please send me to which ever heaven gets me as far from him as possible. Or could he just end me please? There is no thing that endears me to anything about the mormon god.

Go for dessert? Invite them for dessert at your house? Invite for cookies before they all head to their own homes? It makes me sad to see families like this anytime.

Wait, so I don't get it.... Tithing is supposed to be on gross income. If members then claim tithing as non taxable then they are really paying taxes on 10% less that their gross income. Robbing peter to pay paul?

You say that you tell her it is ok if she is an atheist but then tell her that maybe she hasn't found her path to the divine? Sounds like you deep down are expecting or wanting her her to come to your side. That is understandable if you find comfort in being spiritual. It is my opinion that people who have had spiritual experiences are confused. That they have had nothing of the sort. I K

What about the people who feel weird not having a prayer before eating? Sure, they could just silently say a little prayer by themselves. Likewise, you could just wait silently while they have their ritual, you can think about something else. You can use the time to reflect on why you are glad you don't do that any more. I am an avowed atheist. I understand where you are coming from, but w

A whole gaggle of them. I am guessing at least the whole district, maybe more. There was one of them with an Ukulele. Even though it is San Diego and a all of a blistery 55 degrees, they were dressed like they were ready for a Chicago winter storm. They greeted me kindly and I returned the gesture. Obviously they were caroling. I live in a pretty nice apartment complex, and wondered if

This could be a good thing. I think I might be a little more comfortable with another exmo, one who understands where I have been, than the general population. What could we do to encourage more of this?

I never connected Dixie State College to the Dixie of the South. I understand being disgusted by past atrocities. I do not understand erasing history. Those horrible things happened. We should remember horrible things just as often as we remember wonderful things. The acts of our ancestors says nothing about us. The fact that my family many generations before me owned slaves doesn't r

I also agree 100% with bc. I was just talking with my overly Christian friend about mormons. He told me that if I had gone to a Christian church I'd still be religious. He knows nothing about Mormons except what his preacher tells him. He is no better than the mormons who only get their info from the mormon church. Mormons have MUCH more in common with mainstream christianity than most p

I wanted to teach English. Never got to though. I really just wanted to teach people. I felt so stupid doing our weekly community service project requirement at member's houses.

Because it is an "increase." Kids pay tithing on birthday gift money. I've know people who paid tithing on bigger gifts. They paid on the value of the gift.

I would give them a pamphlet on the American Flag etiquette. Act like you are informing them that their flag is upside down, like they didn't realize that their flag was upside down. Make fun of people who are doing these things on purpose. Why don't they just fly a Confederate Flag or a Don't Tread On Me. Flag?
