The Eagle Scout thing will not do anything for your resume! You will end up leaving it off for sure. Unless you go into the military where you will gain rank more quickly, very few people give a second thought to Eagle Scouts. I know plenty of Mormon Eagle Scouts who fudged their way through the requirements. I for one, don't look upon eagle scouts with very much revere.(at least mormon ones)

I don't think so. Some republicans see mormons as less weird, but I don't think it is a significant number. Dems still know them as the church who hates gays. A religious test is not the same as voicing an opinion about crazy religions. The government cannot give a test, but everyone else can. I am also surprised that more has not been said, although I don't think it would have made a difference. Voters either don't care or don't believe the craziness.
