My take on Nelson's Tuesday sermon at BYU is that it was aimed purposely and specifically at this age group of college students (he even gave advance notice that he had a special message just for them, you know telling them to get their arsses in them thar seats). In my opinion, the talk's main and only purpose was to get those thinking, caring students sitting before him, to be on his side a

His delivery of his "sermons" nauseate me. I picture him practicing with Wendy daily (or maybe nightly with help from that mighty PenLight of his turned on) to create the desired tone, the exact emphasis on certain words, and to paste that creepy smile of his across his face at exactly the Wendy-declared-time. Your statement, "Hey Rusty, do you think we give a damn?" s

You win if you said God (which is the same as Nelson meaning himself in my book). Anyway, these were his words in yesterday's BYU student devotional. "Truth is truth. The arbiter of truth is God; not your favorite social news feed, not Google, and, certainly not, those that are disaffected from the church." (plus, it is well-worth going through the agony of a listen to hear Nelso

Insightful comments about the temple "ceremony", some of which, like the close whispering and smells, I never pin-pointed as adding to the distasteful temple atmosphere within its rooms. I remember finally getting to the so-called CK room my first time in the temple, extremely tired of the supposed quietness needed to be in line with spirituality, only to find that here I also was expe

So many excellent comments on this thread which sum up par excellancey the spirit god or gods in the sky along with the whole scheme wrapped around it. So agree that at the heart of this "bamboozle" (thanks to Done and Done for this great word) is for the person to get his jollies and power with as little effort as possible. Been going on for a mighty long time and will continue as lo

Recoiling at these words, follow the prophet, was usually my reaction to this phrase. From my abusive home circumstances, I became an independent thinker, grasping some of mormonism to help me find a plan for happiness but disregarding much of it. I was young, in my teens and early twenties, when I "found" the mormonism that worked for me and it did not include "following" a

Welcome. Agree with your well stated thought that "Emotional abuse is irrational and close to animal like behavior". The unpredictability of it is frightening and stressful, preventing trust in people to develop and grow. As I was struggling big time to find "what was wrong with me," I began to learn that it was my family that had something wrong with them, not me. I wa

A not-timid-in-the-least-elderly-family-member residing in a small town in Southern Utah, when the call went out in her Relief Society meeting for sisters to contact their neighbors for needed coffee cans for a craft project, stood up and loudly said, "Now we know that most members won't have to bother their neighbors for the coffee cans". The story goes that this lady did not beat a

I, too, detest the word "worthiness" used continually by the Mormon Church. My detest grew in leaps and bounds when, back in the day, this word was used to describe how we Mormons, by our actions up in heaven, had earned our placement on this earth. What? This just did not speak of a loving, fair scenario. Would not loving heavenly parents want us to have a level playing field? (

These latest guilting firesides across the West sure are keeping the brethren busy - let them keep up the nonsense as the number of members leaving the cult is not diminishing no matter what tactic they try. Sweden, Idaho, Hawaii, Arizona, Utah, etc.....I think they just enjoy the sight-seeing and those adoring TBM's who haven't given up on them.

The indoctrination of the cult sinks its teeth deep into a member's psyche which means it usually takes much time and some relapses to move away from its grip. Hang in there. I think you are on the right track and give yourself kudos for trying, even if you relapse. Change takes time, especially when you are changing a lifestyle that was drilled into you. Oh, and it might be helpful to read u

(swearing) Attempting to figure out the church to me was much like slaving over a puzzle where, unbeknownst to me, two similar, but different, puzzles had been mixed together. All my time, energy, and cuss words hadn't worked and wouldn't work. So, out of frustration, I distanced myself, took some new paths and roads, explored new scenery to give myself a break. Time and new perspectives

....as has been mentioned - the AMAZING, EXPOSING INTERNET arrived, and as much as the cult tried, using their tithing earned money, energy and time, it, the cult, has not been able to shut it down. What? Did you not pray enough cult or read your scriptures enough for God to answer your prayers on this one?

I so agree with the wisdom here that Mormons are conditioned, BY THE CULT THEY BELONG TO, to blabber intimate details of their life freely, frequently and quickly to even someone they just met. To tune into one of these conversations, your friendly sky travel will provide the opportunity traveling from Utah or to Utah. Soap operas are common. Too much info, too soon, and too fast is the na

I misread the title of this thread as.... Question about Book of Mormon blarney. And, I rather like the sound of this sentence with this word added. (Meaning no disrespect to the wonderful Irish people. I hope they don't mind if I borrow it because I think blarney is one of those words which say much as well as sound great)

Were they dropped on their head before the age of 3? Did they eat too many carrots and not enough broccoli? I know, one leg is shorter than the other! Could it be they revere Ole Joey and everything in done write and done said. Or, maybe they believe the BofM because they love Grandma and after all, she believed. I just know I believe it is a wonder to me because I did not believe

You caught me. When I read what I had wrote after having more sleep, I realized I had used the word miracle when I meant to have said revelation. But I was lazy and didn't correct it. The devil made me do it. :)

I love this thread and its great, pressing question of "Where's Jesus?' I think it is THE question to bring up to religious people. Yes, I can (I think) hear your response of what these religious people will reply. They will reply: ***Jesus must lay low because this world is a test to see what we are made of and if we will follow Him and, drum roll, CHOOSE THE RIGHT. ***That Sat

No, I didn't have to use a penlight, a notebook, and my wife to receive them. Can you believe it? But, I know that these two miracles are real and wonderful and amazing. Will I become well known because I received them? Very doubtfully. Will I be happier because of them? Yes, oh yes! Two, yes two, young family members have seen the light....they no longer believe in the Mormon Church

I personally hope Jesus is somewhere in a hippie universe with his hippie friends enjoying life because he sure deserves this. I mean, after all, he worked hard to get people thinking about some very important stuff, so I tend to think he has earned lots of jolly universe-time hanging out doing whatever in the hell he wants to do. Did he ever take time to surf on the Dead Sea? No, he just

ChurchCo will Obfuscate On Anything And Everything And Those Those Things In Between. Because (they say) it is their duuuty, their responsibility to lie for the Lord, well, on anything, and everything, and those things in between. Those who sit in high places of the MormonCult do not bat an eyelid, their tongues are sly, they look who they are talking to in the eye, and then obfuscate o

Mormon Prophet Russell Nelson, Me thinks you did not think too long and hard nor study too long and hard nor TALK TO GOD or JESUS at all about this here "Mormon" revelation, or doctrine change, or however you want to describe it. I can recall in my lifetime being asked multiple times if I live near the Mormon Temple, if I live in Mormon Salt Lake City, if I am a Mormon, how did Mo
