This is surely a sign that the Lord’s coming is nigh.

For a couple of years after I stopped paying tithing, I still paid fast offerings. I did that because in the early 80s, I was in the presidency of a branch that consisted of immigrants who had recently arrived from Laos. Bishop Storehouse orders were a true lifeline for those people, so I continued to believe in fast offerings after my belief in the church was fading. Of course, we now know that

My birthday is Christmas Day. It sucked when I was younger, but now that I’m a geezer, I’m fine with people ignoring my birthday.

2015: children of same sex couples can’t get baptized until they’re 18, and even then only if they disavow their parents’ relationship. 2016: that policy came directly from God (according to Russell M. Nelson). 2019: God changed his mind about that policy after we pleaded with him (again, according to Russell M. Nelson)

The LDS chapel that I attended back in my TBM days is close enough that I could have walked to church if it wasn’t uncomfortable to walk in “church” attire (and no, I don’t live in Utah). There is a pedestrian/bike path that runs directly behind the building. I can’t tell you how many times I have ridden my bike past there on a Sunday and enjoyed being reminded how much I didn’t miss

Maybe the Lamanites had restrictive zoning regulations that kept the undesirable Nephites out.

I wanted to give my dog a change of scenery for his afternoon walk, so I took him on a short drive to a large open space area next to the house where my wife and I lived in the mid 90s. Next to the path we were walking, there is a historical monument for the Mormon Battalion. It commemorates the Cherry Creek Camp, where members of the Mormon Battalion twice briefly sheltered (once on the way to t

The Mormon view of Lucifer is one of those things that only makes sense if you don’t think too much. Lucifer’s plan would have resulted in no one being lost, but also no one being exalted. Jesus’ plan was accepted, and Lucifer was cast out. But the thing is: without Satan (AKA Lucifer) Jesus’ plan could not work. Lehi explained it in 2 Nephi: “It must needs be, that there is an oppos

My mom loved playing Yahtzee. Since she lived a faithful Mormon life, I assume she plays celestial Yahtzee now, but wouldn’t she get a Yahtzee with every roll? And if she plays with others, wouldn’t everyone get a perfect score?

Mormons try to distance themselves from it. One person told me that the fact that it was published by Bookcraft put it on a third tier (the top tier was books published by TCOJCOLDS, the second tier was Deseret Books). I do know that my MP required all the missionaries to have a copy.

I was able to retire fairly comfortably at age 61. Had I not stopped paying tithing about eight years earlier, I likely would’ve had to work longer, and not be in as good of a position financially as I am now.

During my many years of mormondumb, I read all of the standard works several times (well, TBH, I only read the Old Testament all the way through once). Much of the time, it felt like a chore, so I approached it like I would an unpleasant task in the house or the yard-I just plowed through it. I mean, does anyone actually enjoy reading 2 Nephi? When you read out of a perceived obligation, rathe

I bet that Mormon leadership wishes they had a way to erase the Proclamation on the Family and make everyone forget it ever existed. Same thing for Book of Abraham and the First Vision.

I haven’t gone to church since 2010, but I did attend a funeral for an extended family member last week. I noticed that the bishop conducting the service had a neatly trimmed beard. I think we’d all agree that a beard no big deal, but in the half century+ that I was an active, involved member, I never once saw a bishop (or stake president, or branch president, or High Priest group leader, or

Their 17 million member claim is pure fiction. At MOST 1/3 of the 17 million are people who are alive today who consider themselves to be members of TCOJCOLDS (and I’m sure that my 1/3 estimate is very generous). As Brother of Jerry pointed out, many of the “members” are dead. Probably millions have moved on to other faith traditions, or have abandoned religion altogether. Some are probably

“how would the average starving home invader know where the mormons live so they could try and steal their food?” Back in the pre internet days, I often heard the rumor that at survivalist shows and fairs, some of the booths would have stake directories for sale among the guns, ammo, and other gear.

Plus, Jesus often has trouble with coming up with the right words. Hey, I understand-sometimes I can’t remember the right word, and I’m nearly two millennia younger than Jesus. When Christ was advising Joe to avoid coffee and tea, he somehow couldn’t remember the words “coffee” and “tea,” so he said “hot drinks.” If a PR guy had been there, we could have avoided the confusion ab

“Well the prophet of God needs a survey to help him get revelations.” Of course. What do you think Moses was doing on the mountaintop for 40 days and 40 nights? He was crunching survey numbers in order to come up with the Ten Commandments.

God had it right the first time with Lilith. The problem was rejection by the customer base (i.e. Adam). A simpler, more user friendly replacement was issued.
