When Mary was told by the angel that she would give birth to Jesus, her reaction was (Luke chapter 1, NIV): 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you.” OK, I’ll admit to having a dirty mind, but this makes it sound like the Holy Spirit was planning on pulling out.

I’ve made a few videos of me performing music, and I put them on YouTube. The most popular one has fewer than 300 views. I don’t think that qualifies me as “being in a music video.”

I have been to a nudist resort a few times, and to a couple of clothing-optional hot springs (when clothing is optional, I opt for no clothing). The only downside is that you don't get the protection of the holy garments. ;)

My freshman year, I was a communications major and I intended to work in PR. Switching my major to computer science was a decision so good that it rivaled my decision to resign my membership in the Mormon Church.

Even when I was a TBM, the thought of being a GA never appealed to me. I thought it would be hell to always have to be “perfect” - to never go to a movie on Sunday, to never drink a Coke or Dr. Pepper in public (back when those were frowned upon), to never cuss if you felt frustrated, etc. Yes, they are financially rewarded very richly, but how much do they get to enjoy their money? I thi

I stand (or sit) corrected. Oaks is the president of the Q12, and is next in line to be the beloved prophet. If Holland wants the top job, he’ll have to outlive Oaks. TSCC was playing “Survivor” long before any network executive ever thought of it.

To clarify: Nelson is not only the president of the church, but he’s also the president of the Q12. Since Russ is busy doing prophet things, the Q12 needs an “acting” president. The acting president position has nothing to do with who is in line to be God’s chosen one.

Dallin Oaks is next in line to be president of the (FKA) Mormon Church. It goes strictly by seniority among the apostles. The active president of the Q12 is just the most senior apostle who isn’t in the first presidency.

It’s important to remember that BH Roberts was a general authority and church historian. After all of his research, he didn’t accept the BoM as literal.

Here is a list of things that those of us who grew up Mormon in the 20th century knew well that “the brethren” probably wish would be forgotten. In some cases, there had been a concerted effort to gaslight. I’m sure that some of these items are unknown to many younger members. The Book of Mormon being translated from the gold plates using the Urim and Thummim. “Mormon.” It was ca

Of course the worship of power is bad, and skepticism often leads to truth (that’s how many of us got away from mormonism). I’m talking about people who: Assume something must be false because it makes them uncomfortable, and refuse to look into the evidence (that’s a truly Mormon trait). Put YouTube videos and social media posts on the same level as peer reviewed, double blind studie

“When did ignorance become bliss?” It seems that among some people, ignorance is not only not a reason for shame, it’s a source of pride. I’ve heard people practically brag about never reading books. I assume that some of this comes from lack of trust for authority, but unfortunately, ignoring credible, verifiable evidence, and cherry picking “information” from dubious sources seem
