Here's some of what I see changing right now in front of my eyes. New statues just placed near the renovated Salt Lake temple and one is of Jesus carrying the cross. Really! I can't find a link right now, so if anyone can do so, please post pictures of the statues! Signs everywhere "advertising" and inviting the public to come to this or that activity at the church building. Mov

Wow,does that bring back a memory from college days at the University of Idaho. I lived in the dorms and there were a few students from other parts of the country that seemed more aware of what was going on in the world. One student was in her late 20's as I recall and we thought she was quite "worldly" and "in the know". This was 1967. One day, for some reason I can't reca

Last Saturday, Feb. 28th, we stopped at Costco to get gas in our truck. It was so crowded we couldn't even get in a line to get to the pump for about 10 minutes and to the actual pump for even longer. We filled the tank and it was pricey because the truck has a big tank. Oil was $65/b that Friday. Tonight, oil is $113/b The holy oil ghost really prompted us to fill up last week. Serious

When I Was a freshman in college (University of Idaho), my roommate and I were way early for church on the Sunday the clocks were set back in the fall. We hadn't gotten the memo since it was the 60's and we did not have a radio or TV in our dorm. We were both very embarrassed!

My missionary and I were engaged as I waited for him. He went out in 1968 to postpone getting married (as I found out years later when he came out as a gay man). He was in the southern states. In 1969 Hurricane Camille hit the area that was outside their mission boundaries. Several of the missionaries took the mission car and took an unauthorized trip to see the damage from the hurricane. Just a public service announcement that I wish I had known in 1974 as a fairly new employee in a bank in St. Louis. Do NOT give "helpful" advice to any one who seems to have some kind of a smudge on their forehead. To my ever-lasting embarrassment, I did that to a co-worker and was sternly put in my place as to the significance and duty of Ash Wednesday. She was a devout Catholic who ha

TSSC is having a panic attack because the young adults aren't dating and marrying by age 20 and then having a bunch of kids. Lowering the mission ages for the males and recently the females was (by their own admission) a way to encourage the returned missionaries to marry soon after missionary service. Reality check....these young adults are not dating that much and are putting off marriage we

Dagny, only garments because I had just been through the temple THAT DAY! I was so blown away by all the strange new things I'd experienced that day and the long trip from Idaho Falls down to Magic Valley for the reception, I was kind of a zombie. But the wedding night was just ....odd. I thought my new hubby would be hot to trot. Nope. He stalled. He showered. He scolded me when I tried t

What about the "quiet quitting" that seems to be happening in greater numbers? Just recently, I learned that at least a half dozen of my extended male family members have just stopped going or are PIMO. Most of them are RM's and have had high positions in the ward or stake such as bishops and high council members. I was actually shocked about a few of them.

update...This is a thing among a lot of converts of all ages. It is not forbidden at BYU or church and lots of people are wearing the cross jewelry with the cross lying sideways. I noticed that when a news gal was wearing it that way. According to the people who told me this (relatives) it is to "soften" the look (??) Also, mormon churches or temples will never have crosses on their

just last night I greeted a young adult distant relative who is attending BYU. Around his neck was a cross on a silver chain. I must admit it took me by surprise. I am now wondering if the acceptance of the cross as jewelry will become widespread and if so, perhaps the clamor to adorn steeples with the cross will begin as well. Time will tell!

Well, I guess so! Reportedly Penn State was offering him between $10-12 Million! He currently earns round $3 Million at BYU from reports I've read. I guess that is one reason they keep a "rainy day fund" handy for emergencies like this :)

I realize how silly this is, but I am thankful I started drinking coffee as one of my first steps out of mormonism. Now it is a staple every day. I met a guy for coffee at a Starbucks years ago after chatting online for awhile and really had no idea what to order there, so just winged it. Turns out, we kinda clicked over that cup of coffee and we've been engaged and living together for 15 years.

All the time in my neighborhood. Car washes, movie night, family history night, game night. Same sandwich boards, placed at two or three different locations and using the wording "neighborhood" event. No idea what the turnout is to these things, but it just feels desperate to get people in the door. This is in Salt Lake County but in a area that seems low mormon membership (based on w

When asked about greater transparency on church finances, he said: “The church is not a business. It’s not a financial institution, it’s not an education organization, it’s not even a humanitarian organization. It is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and so all the resources that are available — I’m not even talking about money only — all of this is to accomplish

Some of the signs that were waving during the Fox Big noon show that was broadcast in Provo were pretty raunchy (on both sides) so I am going to say there will be some name calling at the game.

Is it where all the tithing money gets deposited or does that go directly to Ensign Peak money market funds? I ask because Zion's has been in the financial news lately and not in a good way due to some lending practices and so forth. There was a time years ago when some tbm folks looked down on any member who didn't bank at the "lord's" bank.

Watching the Utah Mammoth hockey game last night, I heard the announcer give a little blurb about something or other regarding one of the sponsors. The first time, I wasn't sure I heard it correctly or paid any attention to the shot of the company logo. I paid attention the second time and yep...it was the Eureka Casino in Mesquite, NV. Given the extreme condemnation about "gambling in
