I really want them to enjoy the few remaining years they have left but they are giving every spare dollar to these yahoo's in UT (some food company) in the name of "following the profit".

Both of my parents are in their mid 70's and are fortunate to have been retired for about 20 years. They have been living a modest life style during retirement and don't have a lot of extra income. While I was visiting, my Dad showed me their food storage room. This room is filled with 100's of cans of freeze dried food storage $hit. Not the cheap homemade stuff, but the high priced stuff tha

Eric - I have been participating on this site for a little over 10 years. This place was a lifesaver for me during some of my most fragile moments as I began my exit. As I read this board, I realized I was not insane or crazy AND that I was not alone. There were actually other people who felt the same as me and saw the LD$ church the same way. I am very appreciative that you created and mainta

Good to know since my wife just told me she was about to contact an ExMo group her sister told her about. I am betting it is the group that I am not interested in. I am looking for pure ExMo's. Thanks for the invite John_nr_Wayne. We will likely check into you all. Cheers, Adam...

We (DW & I) recently relocated to the Dallas area (south of I-20). We have no family here and do not attend church. We would love to find other ExLD$ if there is a group here. I'm a long time poster/lurker here on RfM (10+ years).

I think Polly is uncomfortable around people who act or think differently then her. I don't think ANYONE needed to be there to KNOW that "EVERYONE did NOT get drunk really fast". While I defend the "you weren't there so you don't know" thinking, I believe she exaggerated a little bit. However, I am sure there were some who drank more than she preferred they did and that clearl

My annual post remembering our departed poster "Deenie the Dreaded Single Adult" who left us June 15, 2009. Hard to believe it has been 6 years now. Fortunately many of her posts have been captured and archived someone in cyberspace. I was fortunate to have met her IRL. She was a gem. Many of you older posters will remember her writing wit and stories of being a single adult in the

Besides getting to spend a few days in Vegas with my kids and wife, I also get to see my favorite band, Rush at MGM Sat. July 25th. Even more awesome, is I will attend this concert with my DW and 4 kids. We ALL left LD$ together in 2006. This is a celebratory family trip of sorts. I am curious about the replies on things to do. Have fun next week!

Holy Triumphant band Rush for their R40 tour (40 years), I will be drinking with my little brother tonight. Tomorrow I will be meeting up with another Rush Exmo Disciple and we will be worshipping said band with loud cheering, loud laughter and uplifting music... Cheers! Adam

Agreed! "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice". Having been a Rush fan since the late 70's, I only realized these past 10-15 years how much their music & lyrics move me. It resonates with me so much now and I have an emotional attachment to them on so many levels since leaving mormonism. Cheers, Adam

He is a big time Macallan drinker... I have read all of this books and they are great. His bike journey following his daughters tragic death and then his wife passing within a year, is truly a story of overcoming the darkest moments one can imagine. Funny, that reminded me that his father told me they would receive obscure postcards while he was on his bike trip. he really went on a solo jour

torturednevermo - great story. Yes he clearly does not like being in the limelight. I was able to see Rush in Toronto a few years ago. I purchased my ticket two hours before the show and was row 3 center stage. When I arrived, very early, I asked the woman behind me to take my picture with the stage in the background. As I chatted with her and her husband she revealed that I was in the "

Cool. I have met up with a fellow RfM poster who came from TX to see a Rush cover band in Chicago. There are a couple of hardcore exmo Rush fans on here. I will be seeing some of them them at the Austin TX and Las Vegas shows. They still have a cult following after 40+ years. I will miss them when they fade off into the limelight... Cheers, Adam

I really don't care if people figure out that I am middle-aged, slightly overweight guy who is happily married with 4 great kids and loves the band Rush! BTW, did I mention that Rush opens their R40 tour Friday in Tulsa? Let's see if any of my Rush exmo friends bite... Cheers, Adam

Funny "solongfarewell", I've been on this board for 10 years and have found the majority of the posters to be nice and pleasant. In fact I have met many IRL and have been facebook friends with many. As I see their lives via facebook I see nothing like you describe. Reminds me how two people can look at the same thing and see something different. Enjoy you time with LD$. They will we

I decided I needed to take a time out. Once I stopped attending I was able to consider both sides of the argument instead of just the pro side. It didn't take long before I realized there were more cons than pros!

So where do I begin...? We (DW & 4 kids) have been out just over 9 years. Our life has been just fine. Actually the past decade has been great. Last fall I celebrated a milestone birthday (50). The day after my birthday my corporate job was eliminated. However, that same evening I was offered a great position with one of our business units. So within a few weeks I accepted the job whic

So I am either at the end of Q2 or beginning of Q3! Here is my life scale: 20-29 - DW and I focused on school and having kids. 30-39 - We just tried to survive raising 4 young kids. 40-49 - Left LD$ church at 41 & been LOVING life since. 50-59 - Will continue enjoying life & preparing for retirement. 60-69 - Retire at 60? Travel together while we are able. 70-79 - Relax... 80-89

Shortly after determining that the LD$ church was not what I was raised believing it was, my DW and I went out with one of our close LD$ friends. I had served in the bishopric with the husband and he and I were good friends. While at dinner, he stated that while he disagreed with my reasoning for leaving and going inactive, he just couldn't see why I "had to formally resign" my mem

Tithing doesn't go to much of anything "charity" related. Active Mormons might give approx. 1% to charity in the form of fast offerings. I gave >11% (tithing/FO) while Mormon. Now as an Exmo, we give money how and to whoever we like. I don't look at tax deductions but instead give to the needy based on our choice. Adamisfree...
