I stopped calling everyone, including the dog, a "sweet spirit". ;P

No. The BOM had nothing to do with it. I was at a Young Women's Fireside and the Prophet at the time made the statement that young women in college should leave school if the opportunity to be a wife and mother came up. That her role as mother was infinitely more important than her education.

I had twins who were born in 1986. They were 10 weeks early. The eldest died at 11 days old, the other twin, Emily, died at 1 year old, having been in the hospital, on a ventilator the whole year. Eventually, the doctors determined that she was not going to survive and asked us to consider removing her from life support. The decision to do so was not hard, but very very painful. We chose to le

I attend my local Unitarian Universalist Church once in a while. I realized a while ago that I needed the community and ritual in my life. They are very accepting of all ideas. The focus of the few UU churches I have attended is social justice and understanding all walks of life.

That's kind of what I figured too. I was expecting it to take weeks after some of the posts I've read here. I think they are so inundated with resignations and they said "screw it" (or the TBM equivalent) and just started shooting out confirmations. :)

No, it's a conformation letter. No "forward to the bishop" stuff, just "This letter is to confirm that, per your request, your name has been removed..."

I used the form letter: just my name and birth date and the city I live in. I would have had a ton to say, but I realized that they probably really don't care and then neither did I. :)

I sent my resignation by email on the 22nd and got my letter today. They're not even attempting to stall these days. Wow. :)

Thanks guys! My mom has passed already. I guess he meant that even though I've resigned, I still count in the "forever family". LOL It's fine that he believes that. He's respectful of my reasons, but thinks (knows) I'm wrong. :) Honestly, I don't want to shake his faith. That's not what I'm about. He's happy and that's fine. BUT, he gets grief from the church over me and his

It went really well. My dad is understanding of my reasoning, but he doesn't agree, obviously. Funny, he said "Well, you were born under the covenant, so you still belong to me and your mom." I love that guy. :)

My dad does extractions. He's been at it for a long time and his Bishop told him that he'd sent 78,000 names so far. He's very proud of that number. But he's also complained about how many times a single person's name goes through the temple for baptism and ordinances. I love geneology, but not to send to the temple. I just like the hunt for ancestors.

I have been an "ex" Mormon for many years but, out of respect for my TBM parents, I've never officially resigned. It didn't hurt me to be on the rolls, I didn't really care that much. I forgave my father for telling my bisexual daughter that she didn't deserve the same rights that he enjoyed when Prop 8 happened. I was appalled that he would feel that way, he certainly didn't raise

We were all raised in the church. My father is still a TBM. He has been very respectful about my decision to distance myself from the church. I won't resign until he's gone.
