It is good, but not surprising for an east coast (Martinsburg, W.Va) Mormon. Inside happy valley, talk of egalitarianism is heresy.

You guys had it easy. When I prayed about the BoM, I got a 10. And I've seen things, man. Things. But the facts don't lie. The BoM is a hoax just like the whole church.

I bring this up for the recently shelf-collapsed because for some people, a lot of life's meaning was tied up in TSCC. As it turns out, you don't need religion for meaning. You don't need church "friends" or culturally defined roles for meaning. Because that's not where meaning lies. You are the meaning of your life. No God required.

Are they the fuel that powers the engines of genocide? I thought of this after Bill Maher's trashing of the "Conspiracy against Christians". What conspiracy? The US is a Christian nation. That's why we are so quick to hurt people who are "not us". From the native peoples to the modern Arabs, whoever isn't with us is against us. Hurting others is okay because God does it.

You had me until you until Terence... Dumping on McKenna might be appropriate, but it undermines your whole premise. If you have an ax to grind, don't put it on the table.

We pondering primates communicate with small mouth noises. “We are caged by our cultural programming. Culture is a mass hallucination, and when you step outside the mass hallucination you see it for what it’s worth.” -- Terence McKenna

This hails to a recent thread on the 5 ways of thinking. http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1600074 I'm probably an idealist but I shift around some. Faith isn't a replacement for thinking as much as a reason for optimism. There will always be something hidden behind the curtain. Short of using psychedelics to tear down the curtain, faith is the only way to access the divine. Reality is

The temple prayer roll is for "the healing of the sick and afflicted". It's not a ticket to heaven. Lucky you, I don't think you'd like Mormon heaven.

That trailer was unusually hard to watch, and not for portrayals of hardship. Obviously T.C. Christensen is independently wealthy.

There was nothing Joseph touched that he didn't pervert, including faith. Don't be surprised if some folks are a little leery of the faith thing. It's like having bad Chinese and then swearing off Chinese food. Faith is good. Just let us get over our Mormon food poisoning.

You make it sound like being an introvert is a bad thing. Look at all of the deep introspective thoughts you just posted. How many of your extrovert friends could do that, at 26 or at any age? See, in this world someone has to bring sanity to an otherwise wild party. Your friends and family are too high on Mormon party favors to be of much use, so it falls on you. Sorry, but good luck.

Two things: 1. People will never see eye to eye on things even though the disagreements are only in principle because the ways of thinking have different principles. 2. It's good to employ each of the different ways of thinking instead of being stuck in only one way. Not only are some ways of thinking optimal for certain problems, but it allows you to relate to other people's thinking. E

Lump the observed characteristics of this group together and think of them as one person. What kind of person is this? They manipulated you into a friendship only because they needed a friend, not because they wanted to be your friend. You don't need users in your life. It's not fair to you and it only enables their bad behavior. BTW, your experience is the rule, not the exception.

To simplify it a bit further, consider that science's position is this: "Give us one free miracle and we'll explain the rest". That miracle is that all matter and energy in the universe sprung from nothing in a single instant for no reason. That's what I was taught in my physics courses and what is the general consensus in science today. But is it believable? For a philosophy that es

I think they call that a Hobson's choice. Buy you're right, people want what they want for their own reasons, which usually have nothing to do with reason.

Hemmy's thread was a hoot. I needed a good laugh. We'll stop complaining about evil about the same time TSCC confesses that Joseph made it all up.
