Sure, it would be different if we had gone through the temple ourselves. But I think the dream is a bit traumatizing because learning of the temple stuff gave us a shocking epiphany that we were raised in a cult and that our parents did this stuff (and mine still do) all the time. And we were made out to be the bad ones in the family. Your mind is just replaying that shocking moment of discov

I know a TBM that posted about putting away money for her kids each time they finished a school year, together with a letter and their report card. They idea is that when they graduate from high school they will have a huge chunk of change for (as she states) a mission fund. Or a car, or college, or senior trip, etc. But hopefully mission. It is beyond me that any 18 year male would be excite

I had a similarly freaky dream when I first found out about all the temple stuff a few years ago. I was in the temple feeling like I didn't want to be there and that my parents somehow tricked me into being there. And then they turned to me (in their temple costumes) and had this 'gotcha!' look on their faces. I woke up all sweaty and hyperventilating. I know the feeling!

Or....the church doesn't allow for diversity, so the exmos are the diverse people that didn't fit into the white and delightsome nonsense! ;-)

I had never really heard the term apostate until a few years ago. I was in the presence of an extreme TBM (my sister's friend) and she was going on about such and such person is an apostate! I stood in awe at the anger and vitriol coming out of her. When I see Mormons act that way over someone who has become one of 'them', all I can think is that's not 'Christ-like'. It was in that moment I r

^^^ Exactly. My dad being one of them. Raised Presbyterian, joined the Mormons at age 18. Me, raised Mormon. Left at age 18.

I predict a 'revelation' in the future about open mic Sunday ceasing to be a thing. It is seemingly becoming more commonplace for people to get up and do what Ben did, or to come out, etc. I've never experienced anyone doing that during F&T meeting ever.

I was thinking the same thing. What are they shielding the kids from exactly? The truth, that's what! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!! I don't know that all adult members are informed about the church's nasty truths, otherwise how could they all stay? This is also why they are groomed from the beginning to avoid 'anti-mormon literature' (I remember hearing about that as a kid),

My TBM sister has a teenaged son, and she made a social media post highlighting this very talk by Nelson. 1. Disengage from a constant reliance on social media. Oh, the irony. Will she take the advice that she is so heavily pushing on her teenager? She is on social media pretending to be the perfect Mo more than anyone I know! Also, these poor kids don't realize that their parents' gene

Hold up! I can relate this topic to Mormonism. :-) I'm in CA and I voted yesterday. My polling place was the local middle school. Afterwards I took my kids to a splash park in a neighboring town. On our way we passed by a Mormon church (that I used to attend seminary in) and I noticed that it was a polling place!!! If my assigned polling place had been a Mormon church, I would have been tri

Thanks to all for the support! I wanted to share the news, but also give a real account of what I did and how long it took. It might be helpful to others.

I submitted my resignation via e-mail (per instructions here on RfM) back in mid-May. About a week later I received a letter in the mail saying it was a local matter and that my letter would be forwarded to the SP and the Bish (even though I stated to keep the matter confidential and did not want to be contacted by ANYONE). Thanks a lot. So now who knows where that letter is floating around!!!

I never went through an endowment or sealing, and even though I feel terrible for those of you who did, I am so thankful to be able to read about your experiences here. Mormons won't talk about the temple at all, so it's a huge relief that exmos here are willing to honestly talk about it. Learning the truth about the 'most sacred place on earth' helps me understand that this really is a cult and

Recovering from mormonism cannot be done quickly for someone who was BIC, like myself. I don't know that I will ever fully recover from it. When I broke free and moved out of my parent's house (age 18), leaving mormonism at the same time, I lived like I was a free adult. I had a full-time job, went to school, partied, paid bills, went to concerts, travelled, made mistakes, learned about li

I know a super TBM family that has a son who is severely autistic. They use cannibis to help him. They literally make pot brownies. And their home is filled with pictures of temples. LOL

When I was a kid in the 80's some of the tv shows we liked were The Cosby Show, In Living Color (90's), Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc. If my dad caught us watching any such shows he would yell, "why are you watching this black show???'. I grew up in a very diverse part of So-cal, so to us kids it was weird that he would say that and have such an angry attitude about it. I'm guessing he wa

The first paragraph gives the gist, in case you don't want to read through it: In scripture, Jesus tells us to “be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.” “Be One” is the theme of a First Presidency-sponsored event on June 1, 2018, celebrating the 1978 revelation on the priesthood on its 40th anniversary. BeOne.lds.org has been created to provide more information about the event,

Exactly...especially because the congregations regularly sing Praise to the Man 1. Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah! Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer. Blessed to open the last dispensation, Kings shall extol him, and nations revere. (Chorus] Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain. Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his breth

I got to go there once as a kid. A family member had a connection to get us in. We celebrated my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary in a private dining room. The annual membership is $10,000, with an initiation fee of $25,000. Just another thing for my Mormon family to brag and feel super special about. Mormons LOVE elitism. One memory I have about Club 33 is that in there was the

An observation I've made over the years is that Mormons want to be called 'LDS'. They don't like being called 'Mormons'. The funny thing is that most of the world doesn't know what they're talking about when someone says LDS. I remember a time in high school when a Mormon friend was asked by a non-Mormon what the heck did LDS mean? Little dick syndrome? Oh man that had me in stitches. They act al
