Back when these were published, there were many links to find them. Guess what? One has to create an account now to read them. Don't want an average Joe to come across them accidentally. Someone had the good sense to capture them before the barn door was locked. https://www.docdroid.net/twnZzSC/gospel-topic-essays-pdf

122. Purpose?
What is there to do besides bashing Mormonism? How about the opportunities to explore everything you were told to avoid. Share, discuss, recommend. Discover the world that exists outside the Church's closed parameters. Books whose authors we were told were evil. Movies we were told were indecent. The Internet - (until the leaders saw its value for propaganda). Events to attend that bring

There are some who would do harm to a black cat out of evil superstition. Shelters are aware of this.

When people are convinced to believe that imaginary things are literal, the entire gamut is opened up for whatever idea or interpretation or "spiritual thought" one can conjure up to throw out there as to appear enlightened.

I hope those who read "Maus", and then determined that it is harmful for others to read are seeking remedial therapy to deal with the acute damage done to them by its imagery.

Are you in one or more of the exmo groups? Dialoging with other ex-mos is a good way to make new friends. At some point you can get together for coffee. Is that Ex-mo meet-up group still meeting on Sundays at Harmons? They used to post notices here.

Is this the one Brother of Jerry posted about? Program is RadioWest with Doug Fabrizio - conversation with author Amanda Montell about her book Cultish. She doesn't mention tscc by name but it's clear who and what she is talking about. And for GNPE, the author agrees with your judgment of the word "Cult", preferring "Cultish".

if people make this stuff up, post it, follow it, just to see how far it spreads? I recall a high school teacher as an illustration about social media, having students create a benign post just to see to where and how far it spreads.

This line spoken by Jesus in the New Testament pretty much summed it up: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." And I think of all the prehistoric people, non-Europeans, Asians, Africans, isolated primitive people who lived and died never hearing about Jesus. How ridiculous.

This is just me. No religious, philosophical, or scientific discipline to support it. I believe that what we know as consciousness is simply an accumulation of memories, thoughts, impressions, experiences, learning, all stored upon an inherited scaffolding of structure in the brain, interconnected through trillions of neurons, connections that have almost an infinity of possibilities for aware

All of my 32 great-great-grandparents were converts to the church. Some lines came through 18th Century America; some were 19th century converts from Europe. Considering the statistical chance of those parental lines converging to produce "me", I ponder what if any particular circumstance in my generational past had been different. If one great-great-grandmother had refused to come

Where's the "he served in many callings, yada, yada" Is it possible that Reid was a NOM? A "cultural" Mormon? A closet apostate? I think he was treated ba

I think they are trying to establish rapport with theologians, get on their good side, inoculate the believers, a-la the same manner as the release of the doctrine essays to the faithful. They don't want to have to suffer the same fate as Galileo and Copernicus what with trials, threat of torture, censure, public shame and humiliation, and being forced to deny science, and whatnot.

My understanding is that tracing ones own family lines through DNA is only as accurate as the data they (Ancestry, 21 and me, etc.) have on hand. If people haven't recorded their DNA there might not be any validation as to from where your ancestors hail. Data from 3rd world countries is particularly lacking.

It was an epiphany of sorts when I heard it explained that the difference between "violent" crimes - burglary, assault, armed robbery - and white collar crime - embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion, money laundering - was simply access to power and privilege. Great post, EOD! Thought provoking, stimulating, insightful!

A 2019 study by Jessica Logan, Ohio State university: Summary: "Young children whose parents read them five books a day enter kindergarten having heard about 1.4 million more words than kids who were never read to, a new study found. This 'million word gap' could be one key in explaining differences in vocabulary and reading development." In addition to the number of words hear
