Why not? Besides, it gives the TBM something to buy for each other for gifts (they don't buy that stuff for themselves).

Two male missionaries spontaneously knocked at my door a few minutes ago (about 6:15pm). As I (a female) was the only one home at the time, they couldn't come in, so we stayed on my (covered) porch to chat for awhile. They were surprised I was a member (albeit not active). (I live in So. Calif, just outside L.A. in an incorporated town, but in L.A. county.) They had come on bikes (parked up

IMO, it's not OK, whether or not the man is powerful. When I was of dating age, a 'good' Mormon boy (who was about to go on a mission), put his arms around my behind to pull me close enough to him for a goodnight kiss, at my front door. I was so shocked, I just pulled away from his junk, and went into the house as quickly as I could. Neither did I write to him, although his mother told me

AT 9 months old? Quit worrying about it, for a couple of reasons. 1. She's not old enough yet to understand what is being said (and won't be for quite a while). 2. A lot can happen between now, and by the time she is old enough to be left in any classroom or baby-care room. 3. He's a proud father, and he wants to show the congregation how 'special' he is for taking her with him (so he c

Help yourself. However, it can help to keep one from being identified, which can be a good thing for those who believe this may cause them to be excommunicated (due to what they have to say, and their criticisms re. the church). In my case, I have already fought this battle, and I don't relish doing it again.

Goaded into looking by curiosity, I discovered in the Journal of Discourses, 122:339-340, a mention by Orson Pratt, and on goggle, 'An Unofficial LDS Doctrine' essay, dated Feb.11, 2009, that speak regarding J. Smith's writings on Cureloms and Cumoms. One would think that, by now, with all the archeological digs in which many church members (mostly scientists and students from BYU?) have part

What these people have in common is that they don't listen to, or care, how the person they contact responds, so instead, they just keep on with their usual sale's pitch. That is, how their victim reacts is usually of no importance to them--so, they just carry on trying to sale their product. If you say "No Thanks', it just goes in one ear, and out the other of most solicitors. A sal

My grandmother told me that you find out something new every time you go to the temple, so I used to look for this, and even the tiniest thing I noticed fulfilled her prophecy. How dumb and naive and vulnerable we can be in the process of growing up.

The Church News, Oct., 2017, presented an article from the Priesthood session re. the message given by Elder Dale G. Renlund. (Too sacred to give to the whole church at once--women excluded until they read about it, or their husband's 'reveal' it to them.) Quote: "'Jesus Christ has the power and authority to redeem all mankind....To make His atoning power accessible, He has delegated a

My sister chose to spend her life cleaning and taking care children. Not me. When growing up, we shared a room and a dresser. Her side of of the dresser was neat and clean, while my side had dust balls on it. She always ironed her cloths, while I 'borrowed' them to wear on special occasions (and only ironed something myself as a very last resort). Now-a-days (lucky me), I have a (mostl

Better late, than never (and don't say, 'better never late--it doesn't fit here). I've heard (and practice), that when one's not-wanted thoughts come into my head, I immediately think STOP, and change the subject to something I have planned as a good old stand-by to think about instead (such as what to fix for dinner, reading a good book, calling a friend, etc). Oh, yeah---and visit RfM. A

My great-grandfather was a member of The Council of Fifty. He couldn't read, but he sure had brains, and knew how to get rich. He was sent from SLC to begin a settlement in South Arizona. Most of his wife's didn't want to start all over again in the deseret of So. Arizona, so they stayed in SLC (by the, civilized), where they were comfortable. His last wife was young, a red-head, and pret

Awful stuff. Remember 'the man in black', Johnny Cash, who held concerts at prisons (as he knew, through having been in one, how awful it was to be there). (He accompanied himself with his guitar, and often his wife, June Carter, was with him.) He sang, "I shot a man in (Reno?), just to watch him die", and the prisoners in the audience ROARED their approval. It seems to me tha

When I fell into disfavor with the church, they sent two members of the priesthood over to get my temple recommend from me directly. (They asked me to bring it to them, but why make it easy for them?) Now (as when a granddaughter recently got married in the temple), I just politely declined to attend. (I'm not fooling anyone--they know I have no interest in going.) IMO, no one wants to as

In my small, humble, voice I say: Thank you, "ificouldhietokolob". I didn't know you had it in you--but, no wonder you chose "hietokolob" for your moniker for this site. Even so, I didn't mean to imply my dating of things historical as being even 'in the ball park', as to how things 'came into being'. (I recognize the Adam biblical story as just that--a made-up story.)

The data I found, dated by scientists, mentions art finds on walls in caves, made by people of some 30,000 years ago. Doesn't the Bible state a beginning of the earth as 6,000 years (not saying how long a 'year' was then)? And, the dating of the Biblical 'Adam' (mankind), first in the Garden of Eden (not known for how long?), before he and Eve were kicked out of the Garden into the 'real' worl

The world's a big place, and Mormon's are but a small cog in it. For instance, Muslim women--who have just (finally) been give the right to drive a car, let alone be allowed to be seen in public without their face covered. So, no, I don't agree with this subject's premise.

How many of you laggards are going to admit that you no longer do this (as the church encouraged and advised), or maybe even never did? I started out by keeping copies of all the letters I sent family members. (Actually, now that we communicate via computer, this is easier to do.) So, someday (after I'm gone), someone will have to go through my thousands of communications, just to make sur

1. My ward allowed services when my husband passed away, AND, the Rel. Soc. prepared a meal for all of us afterwards (and cleaned up afterwards!), and asked for nothing in return. Steve: "Indeed, Mormon ward Gospel Doctrine teacher Beardall claims that there was no way Eadie was ever really dead in the first place, noting that such a 'rais from the dead' cannot be accomplished 'without a priesthood blessing.'" As entertaining and silly as the whole reported episode is, that was the LOL moment. Fun way to begin the day.
