Rusty, I wonder how that woman got the companion away from her target, because the ones I've been around were stuck like glue to each other.

Dagny, I am living in Mississippi and was wondering if you have decided where you are going to move to when you retire? This is a big question for me and I'm wondering where other people might select, and why. A general area would be fine, you don't need to tell me the exact town. Thank you!!!

Hi Beggie, In the US South, I live in Mississippi, and the converts here are few in the ward I attended, but there are many life-long members. However I did see in the year I attended, that 'consolidation' reduced the missionaries in the Ward by 50% and the Senior Missionaries by 100% (there aren't any here anymore, they were centralized to be someplace else). The presence of Baptist church

Smirk, quote "Since my terminally flawed temple marriage was eventually going to implode anyway" I wonder if anyone has ever looked at the rate of divorce of Mormons compared to others similar in age/geographic area. It would be interesting to know if they actually break up quicker despite all the praying! quote "I could have just laid in bed to get some badly needed re

Hi Myth, Thanks very much for your tips and yes, I am already finding Summer and many others here to be the best community I could hope for. So I guess since Mormonism and leaving it have brought me here, I DID find the community I was looking for...not in the church, but consisting of church leavers! Better conversations and thoughts here than I had in over a year of attending the Churc

I always thought it was funny that the church seems to believe in marriage but made no effort to facilitate singles except by these starched formal 'activities.'

Rusty, I am laughing at your observations of the Mormon Singles dances!I am so proud of you for only 'walking out really fast' and not running! I think, when the only attractive lady dances only with the one attractive male, that is just illustrating their narcissistic lack of empathy. How mean not to give other guys a chance. The biggest (ha) problem I see here in the South is that so m

Wow that is cool you play the piano! I heard a song in a fireside "Far Far Away on Judea's Plain" that a kid played "spruced up" probably as you do, and it was great. I had never heard the song before and I checked out some versions on youtube after that. I wonder if the members assume you are gay? I talked to one 30-year-old single member and he said older women reg

Hi Myth, OMG you had the same problem at Sacrament as me!!! Yes, all those groups of people....and then here you are alone... First I sat with the Missionaries, then after Baptism I sat with a married lady and her husband and kids....then she stopped coming regularly and there I was sitting with her husband... so I didn't like that! So found another married lady, and SHE also stopped

Zelph, Thanks for the laugh! Oh how I wish you and your buzzer had been in my ward. They seemed to ALWAYS run over and the more boring they were, the more they had to say! They should have appreciated you instead of bumping you!!!

Emmett, I am very sorry to hear your sadness, though I don't understand what you mean by saying your "shelf broke." I worked as a firefighter for a while, it is very rewarding to help people. You could get your EMT at a community college for very little money, and that could get you into ambulance or other rescue work. I think one step at a time: can you start walking in the ev

Goop, Yes, I felt that. There was an 'inner circle' even just in my small ward, and although they would be superficially friendly, I would never be in that group.

Wally, Good summary and points. Quote"Then there were the professional moochers who just saw the eager-to-please members as easy pickings. Constantly calling the bishop or EQ president for taxi service, moving service" Ha! I saw this too, the lady who only came when she was going to need help moving. And it did seem like a lot of converts had not car/job/etc. And I saw also

Goop, My guess is you were so indoctrinated, it took a while to clear your mind. I so *wanted* to find a 'church home' as they say in the South, to *belong* and have a *community* that it took a year for me to see, this is not my place to be. Agree with HietoKolob, you got out when things were right for you to...

Hi Myth, How funny, popping in, yet leaving early: "nothing to see here!" And the number of single adults versus those attending....how sad that churches and other organizations do such a poor job of welcoming singles, when I think statistically around half of households are singletons. Which leaves us to the wild west of online dating, mostly. GNPE, I agree that there are e

I didn't like my family when they were alive and my idea of the worst possible eternity would be having to be with them. Funny how the Church doesn't have a backup plan for those of us who DON'T want to be with family.

Done and Done, I like your line: "Life itself is enough if you are good at it, and if you are not, the last week of December is a great time to practice." Also I am lusting after your peppermint brownies, yum!!! Thanks!

Elder, that is funny. I imagine it must be pretty faded by now. I don't know about standards for Mormonism but here in the South I still see many people of color with photos of JFK in their office. So I would assume that as long as they feel a connection they still want the photo hanging there.

Wally Prince, this was fascinating and hilarious, thank you. In my year, yeah, people always asked me if I heard a 'still, small voice' and I never did.

I have taken the Missionaries to lunch at restaurants, because I am a single female they would not be allowed to my house for a meal. They are very, very busy, they open their schedules when I offer lunch and their days are booked. Prospects aren't called 'investigators' anymore. They are limited to a one-hour meal and 15 minutes has to be spent on a lesson per Mission rules. In my ex

Years ago I worked for a government agency; we got a new director and his first decision was to change the initials the agency was known by. This meant changing the website, all the stationery, the floor mats, the name painted on all the official vehicles, every form the agency used. It probably cost millions! He showed his megalomanic true colors and was ousted in less than a year. New dir

Some people DO just forward emails, I agree it is a massive boundary crash but.... it just reinforces the thought: don't put anything in writing unless you don't mind it being printed and posted on the company bulletin board for everyone to see.

When I was thinking about leaving TSSC, I went to the Baptist church a few blocks away for their Wednesday evening service. Imagine my surprise when the pastor got up in front of everyone with slides and showed the entire church income and expenditures, one by one. He does it every quarter. I think all churches should let you know where their donations go. That contributed to my decision
