Exactly. The only time "right" wins against the church is when things get heard outside the Utah courts system- including the Utah Supreme Court. That won't happen. The church employs the biggest, meanest, most effective law firm in the State. This won't go that far. A deal will be cut and BYU PD will maintain their creds. Mark my word.

You don't live in Utah-do you? I can understand your perspective, if you haven't lived here. NOBODY can understand the theocracy of Utah until you've lived here. Yeah, yeah, I know what the constitution says. I know the way the courts are supposed to work. I know about the theory about church and state. It does not exist in Utah. 90% of our lawmakers are active LDS. 90%.They take their orders fro

Let's be clear here. They are NOT de-certified. They are scheduled to be de-certified in 6 months. The right church officials will "talk" to the right politicians and they will retain their certification. This is a dog and pony show. The thinking has been done and their election (certification) made sure. BYU PD will acquiesce to certain "changes moving forward" and will conti

Yep. My brother is in FL. They have free wine samples in Sweet Bay grocery stores.Try that in Utah and they'll be arrested and treated like a serial killer.

Ok, but here's the post, saying it was sarcasm; "I don't believe this story -- a Walmart Manager became a bishop?? Not a prestigious enough position for the lard truly anointed. Of course I'm being sarcastic - however all the bishops I had growing up were men of prominent social standing: Dr.'s, lawyer'w, engineer's, etc." But, just for the doubters, it a few miles from the RfM D

That was the argument against the "Zion Curtain" that Utah made restaurants install to keep kids from seeing drinks being made. What happens to those fragile kids when they go to CA or FL to Disneyland? They see drinks made in airports, hotels and restaurants in every other state. Do they suddenly turn into alcoholics and demand Jello shots?

See, the problem here is that you're convoluting the issue. Food Lion, Rite Aid, Publix, etc. don't cover up Shape, S.I. etc. They just moved Cosmo from the checkout aisle.Uncovered. You'd make a good mormon apologist.

Nah. They buy it local. They just pay twice as much. Utah taxes alcohol at 87%. You can buy it on the border for almost half as much. Same with tobacco. But, if you're driving to the border to save money on liquor, might as well buy cheap tobacco, lottery tickets and gasoline. We lose billions in tax revenue, annually, due to "sin" taxes.

No, you're wrong. I've lived in the bible belt. They cover up Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, etc. Not Sports Illustrated, Shape and Cosmo. In Utah, they can't sell Playboy, or anything close, in grocery or convenience stores. You have to go to an adult book store. It's illegal to sell X-rated DVD's in Utah. There's a reason that our border states all have huge liquor, tobacco and X-rated supply sto

Because Utah is a theocracy. Always has been. They take special pleasure in enacting laws that focus on Gentiles. We're not like the rest of the country. https://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/utah-s-new-alcohol-rules-limit-stores-to-beer-displays/article_f2a57a3f-6539-560d-9f4d-ae38e1b8ed33.html

You do know that Utah is the only State where grocery stores have to cover up Cosmo, Shape,Women's Fitness, Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, etc. magazines, right? Effing prudes. https://fox13now.com/2014/12/03/utah-moms-call-for-blinders-on-revealing-magazine-covers-in-stores/

Yes. Most beer drinkers like the taste. Plus the mild, consistent buzz.If you want to get loaded, especially in a few hours, most people drink liquor. A regular beer drinker can handle 6-10 beers over 4 hours with no problem. 6-10 cocktails? Not so much.

I guess it's supply and demand. In Utah, where there's a wardhouse every 400 yards, I think there's a lot more bishops. Our neighborhood current one is a contractor. Previously it was a insurance broker. There's a lot of LDS bishop dentists around here as well.

Well, 2 things here. You can buy regular beer in the State liquor stores. Room temp (no refrigeration) and no deals. Real beers (not the 3.2 beer in grocery stores) are sold by the bottle. You can but one 12 oz. Urquell Pilsner @ $1.95. Or 6 x $1.95. Or 24 x $1.95. It's a joke and a ripoff. All my beer drinking buddies have a rotating route with their friends and neighbors. Once a week, someone d

Don't laugh. It's true. Every year our Religiouslature meets, they pass a slew of liquor laws that go into effect the next year. Thanks to last session, they limited the amount and square footage of beer signs/advertising to 2. You know how during major events like the SuperBowl, World Series, March Madness, General Conference, etc, all the Budweiser, Coors, Millers. Coronas, etc. come out with c

No Shit. I can't believe that he could do that. I thought every Walmart was laid out by corporate in Arkansas. I'm thinking that he got special permission from HQ because he explained that most of his customers believe that coffee and beer are evil.

Good Grief!. We live on the very South end of the Salt Lake Valley. We have a couple of grocery stores nearby. One of them is a WalMart "Neighborhood Market". Neighborhood Markets are about 1/4 the size of a typical WalMart. They only sell groceries, pharmaceuticals, and stuff found in your usual grocery store. No tires, electronics, clothing, guns, etc. Ours has been there about 12 yea

The Northridge quake was horrible. I lived in Ventura and felt it. My buddy lived in Northridge in a home off of Parthenia. A mile or so away from that apartment complex that went from 3 stories to 2 stories in 10 seconds. His house had some damage, mostly to his fireplace and stuff falling on his car in the garage. His wife was a private nurse for Larry Flynt. He had 3 nurses, round the clock, w

Does the church carry life insurance policies on them? Payable to the church? A lot of big corporations do. I was shocked to find out that my Fortune 200 company carried life insurance polices on many of us. Payable to them. I wish someone would do some research on missionaries killed, maimed and hospitalized while on their mission. Post it to a public domain and send the link to church members.

We live about 4 miles from the epicenters coming from Bluffdale. They are not tremors. I lived in CA. A 4.5 feels about the same, at 7-8 miles away as a 3.8 does 4 miles away. This morning's (2:31 am) was only a 3.2, but it lasted for 10 seconds. The thing that pisses me off, is that some of the news stations have had guys on telling people that these "little quakes" are actually good.

Elyse. Did you read the part where Erik says he's managing her money? You don't know who's writing the checks to the facility. You don't know who has executive power and/or liabilities. Consulting a lawyer is solid advice. The situation suck, but ignoring the facility is not sound advice.

I guess my question is; what the hell are they doing living in area where they have to have to collect water to surv
