When you are in your 60's + the perspective does change a bit. I have a cigar once or twice a month. Along with the cigar a high quality whiskey on ice or straight up hits the spot. There is something relaxing about leisurely smoking the cigar and sipping a smooth drink. It is a quiet commitment for 45 minutes or more - a form of meditation. Clearly I am not advocating smoking. This is a

I am just guessing, so take it for what it is worth. I don't believe the problem is your visiting this site. It is much bigger than that. He wants to control what you do. That is a significant red flag.

by Eric Hoffer. A good read. All mass movements must have an enemy. If you don't have one, you create one. I am just paraphrasing, but you get the idea. It appears that atheists and humanists are the new enemies of Christianity in these fundamentalists' minds. I believe these hard core Christian fundamentalists are quite fearful of rational individuals who wish to think for themselves and w

We are not an organization nor a religion. In fact, I recommend people to take a year or two off from religion when they leave Mormonism. Explore life. Spend time with family and friends, which was nearly impossible to do as active Mormons. Take up a new hobby. Read great literature. Study anything you wish. You get the idea. We would lose our credibility to tie our ourselves in any way

I appreciate the kind words. I have benefited greatly from the people who have contributed here. It is Memorial day. My jazz band plays for the veterans every Memorial day. This is our 7th year playing for them in Athens TN.

It is nice to put faces to screen names. It was certainly a pleasure to meet the two of you. Life is so much better w/o Mormonism.

Nightingale, My jazz band played I Heard a Nightingale Sing (in Berkeley Square) tonight at a restaurant gig. Funny to see it mentioned here. Playing in a couple of groups has been great fun for me.

Thanks Slumbering Minstrel! I wished I had a chance to talk to you and your husband more. It was a great luncheon. I am really impressed with the young families like yours and all the others who attended. I am am excited to see that the children will be freed from a Mormon upbringing with intelligent and thoughtful parents. I don't mean to exclude the young couple still working out thei

From the article: "The lawsuit was filed on behalf of employees who were part of the ESOP . The proposed class action lawsuit says MonaVie principals sold shares valued at $186 million to an ESOP they had created in 2010 but that the company shares quickly fell nearly 100 percent in value." The scammers keep on going in Utah. Unfortunately innocent people are hurt. Greed is ofte

Sigh... I am always worried going to a meet-up, which is rare for us, that once folks meet me they will go running back to the Mormon church. Being an introvert is tough too.

I was going to delete this original post, but changed my mind as it so clearly demonstrates the shallow thinking of the many emails I have received from Mormons over the years. Not all Mormons are comparable to this individual.

Thanks Steve. We have had several coordinated denial of service attacks in the past couple of years. It cost us a bit to fix each time. It requires significant tech help to overcome and then contact the owners of the zombie servers or block them at routers upstream from our ISP. We could not isolate who paid for the disruptions as DoS is a paid for service by hackers outside the US. Most l

They have been at this for a few weeks now. I have been largely out of touch working 12+ hour days for the past few months in Kentucky on a power plant start-up. I really appreciate their work and their time. They have been doing this on their own w/o my input. This site exists due to group efforts. The power plant start-up is over and I hope to get back to a more normal life. We missed

We got a hotel room for that Sat night in downtown Nashville. The hotel has a roof top bar for those who wish to visit in the evening too. Otherwise after the lunch we will go hear some music. Should be fun.

We do need some serious upgrading here. I can check with our new admins and perhaps add one or two more admins. Another board could handle meetups, but it requires time to monitor. I just worked a 70 hour week in Kentucky on a power plant start-up. My time is limited. Life is funny, I thought it would slow down, but the consulting work has gotten far too busy. I will have to slow down

Mine was Timothy as well. Timothy is a name in 3rd Nephi if I remember right. I wonder if apologists can create a reason such a name was among the nephites. Strange stuff we used to believe.

A Moscow mule, also known as a Vodka buck, is a buck made with a high quality vodka, a spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. I am home and have time this weekend. We will stay up. Going out to dinner with some friends today and tomorrow with our daughter. Other than that, will be home. I have been on the road working too much. I just want to be home. The site was corrected yesterday with mysql issues. Please let me know if there are still bugs. Eric

We have had problems over the past several days. The database automatically rebuilds if there is a problem - it takes a few minutes. The larger issue was our virtual server - it crashed. Sorry I have been out of town. Eric

That is completely wrong Purple. People are recruited into a cult. The techniques for recruitment are subtle and powerful. If a person is in the right frame of mind, depression, loneliness, major life loss etc., he or she can easily be pressured to join a cult. To say they have no one else to blame but themselves shows you have no understanding. Besides, you said you were leaving here.

Please be aware we do not know the people on this underground. Do not assume it is safe. It probably is, but like all things caution is required.

It has been very gratifying to have so many respond in wishing to assist in the board's administration. We are slowly adding a few admins over the next couple of weeks. We added several this week. We will add one or two more this week and hopefully that will hold us for now. Those who have volunteered will be used later if they still desire. We do not wish to burn anyone out and, unlike t
