When I look at the sacrifices we made as a family years ago to pay tithing (I worked several jobs for a few years so we could pay) that statement would of been enough to drive me out at that time. No transparency.

'The term “prosperity gospel” describes a movement or teaching emphasizing a guarantee of financial and physical well-being for faithful believers. The core message is that believers who trust God fully and follow certain prescribed practices will see direct, measurable increases in their earthly prosperity... Obedience Brings Financial Increase: Promises like Malachi 3:10-“‘Bring the ful

Many years ago when I was active, a member of the ward had a good job at a auto parts assembly plant near us. He was told by the stake president to quit that job and dedicate himself to being the janitor of our little ward. So he quit and had to drastically scale back his lifestyle to a depressingly little home that he rented with his wife. This home was a short walking distance to the ward.

I had a Dr appointment nearby. When that finished, I had two hours before my next rehearsal so I went to the food court and had a pizza. That was the limit of my mall experience.

I was at a large shopping mall in Chattanooga last week. I had not been to a mall in years. When I exited the mall there was a male missionary pair hitting on a couple teenage girls in the parking lot. Apparently this is a new recruiting tactic others have mentioned. I wanted to intervene. It was possible the women were members so I let it go. Do businesses such as malls require permissio

I guess I am a bit jaundiced by having this site for many years. This corporation sucks money and time from sincere (and gullible) people. To me, that is a definition of evil. This organization started as a con. It continues as a con - a real estate empire that cares little for its adherents. It only takes and rarely gives. It cripples peoples growth. Believing in nonsense and social isolat

Not quite the same thing, however I am reading a book where the author is in a strange new land and he initially feels he found one of the lost 10 tribes. He had two competing thoughts - 1 to convert them to Christianity and become famous or 2 try to make as much money off them as possible. The 10 tribes brought back memories of Mormonism.

Erewhon by Butler. Thanks for the book recommendation. DW and I have a cabin rented in the Blue Ridge Mtns for a few days. I added this to my reading list. We promised each other no news or scrolling the net. I will bring my saxophone though to practice as I have quite a few gigs coming up. I will probably disturb the black bears and other creatures nearby.

I got the flu and covid shots on the same day. No problem. The 2nd shingles shot, a week later, made tired and a bit sore. It only lasted a day or so. It is better than getting shingles.

'Too many of them end up becoming arrogant and mean-spirited.' In the first few years of this site we were attacked regularly by Mormon apologists. Among the folks were Daniel Peterson. His ugly rhetoric is enough to send Mormons away from the faith. I was subjected to it and appalled by his conduct. I hope they keep that same mean spirit and lead folks here. Mormon apologists are trouble

Mhlakela's prophecy has gained traction on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where users are sharing both serious and humorous takes on the prediction. As speculation about the Rapture spreads, some believers are reportedly selling off homes, cars, and other assets in preparation for what they believe may be an imminent event. Social media posts show individuals quitting jobs and liqui

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/pastor-says-vision-told-him-001500034.html 'One pastor’s viral vision has believers walking on water in anticipation. A South African pastor recently claimed that Jesus could be making a return on Sept. 23, with the Feast of Trumpets ringing in the Rapture and Judgment Day. In a viral YouTube video, Pastor Joshua Mhlakela claims he saw Jesus in a div

I don't remember the location. His voice got real soft and said "this is a bit of a secret - Robert Redford is taking the missionary discussions.' Of course every thing said by that charlatan was true.

Chesterfield - A brand I had not heard in years (decades actually). My grandfather smoked those. I only met him a few times. The cigarettes seemed to be a part of his personality in the way he smoked them. The image the brand tried to portray? Strange memory.

From NPR: https://www.npr.org/2025/08/15/nx-s1-5484938/mormon-women-can-wear-new-sacred-undergarments-some-wonder-why-now Many Mormon women are celebrating the new garments, which they've been requesting for years. Others say the church's all-male leadership should have listened to them sooner. As for Layton, she's just excited. "My shoulders, they, like, have never been more tan in

I believe it is the husband who has to call his wife up by her temple name in the resurrection. Oops, if you forgot her name. That may be a more serious infraction of celestial rules.

I had an engineering project on a massive chemical recovery boiler that was to be constructed at my work here in TN. I flew to Finland in 1995 to become acquainted with the controls and operation. I had served a mission to Finland years earlier. I spent 3 days in Helsinki wandering places I had proselytized for 9 months of my mission. It struck me that I had really accomplished nothing in tho

When I was a ward clerk years ago, we had a binder of instructions sitting in the office. I read the section for Stake patriarchs on how they were to give patriarchal blessings. I remember the admonition to give a 'conservative blessing'. There were sections with dividers for various ward and stake positions. So it would be no surprise to me there are binders to GAs how to conduct themselves i

I wondered, when I was a TBM, how our spirits were chosen to go to families based on our faithfulness in the pre-existence, This has to cause some dissonance amongst members, perhaps only older members, about Mormon doctrine/ https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/health/eight-babies-born-uk-thanks-new-ivf-dna/ https://www.theguardian.com/science/2025/jul/16/eight-healthy-babies-born-after-ivf-using-d
