I just heard the wildest story, but perhaps its not, perhaps it happens a LOT. A young bride had a final interview with her bishop just prior to marrying in the temple. she was wearing just her open crotch garments and her temple dress. She and her fiance' were at the temple, waiting to marry and her bishop called her in to a side room and=- er- sorry for indelicacy- "examined" her with his hand ..." have to make certain you are a virgin."
Can you imagine! a friend's daughter had this sexperience. Right before her temple wedding! wondering if this is something that happens frequently! My gosh
let's hope all this ( swearing) becomes exposed ( er, sorry)-- comes to light--- soon.

Yeah, it happens all the time. Your friend obviously has no idea on what takes place prior to a temple sealing in the temple, but nice try.

Someone is telling you fairy tales.

If I remember right, this is a story that the Baptists in the midwest liked to tell. Problem is, none of them knew what they were talking about. They made up a lot of stories.

Wait, they make open crotch garments? Why didn't anyone tell me?!

They did indeed used to have a big floppy slit from front to back since they were one piece. I actually remember these and have never seen the "modern" two piece garments.
There were two flaps that might have been intended to overlap, but they never did. It was like a men's fly run all the way back through the crotch up to the vertical smile, but without elastic the flaps just hung down unless you got a pair so short in the torso they gave you a wedgie. Then they'd be closed, but in a most uncomfortable place.

But yeah the story of virginity checking is straight up urban legend. Or if it's true, that bish is due for prosecution. Not something anyone should find lol-worthy, like OMG do morms rilly doo that???

Not to mention, "final interview" PRIOR to marrying in the temple? Then she wouldn't be wearing garments.

And if it was a second marriage and she was wearing garments, she wouldn't be a virgin....no need to check.

Story is bogus.

Thanks for responses!
Yeah, it's probably just urban legend or Baptist Midwest legend. But I wouldn't be surprised if abuse toward minors goes on all the time- happens in every other church !! not to mention boy scouts !

Hm I wonder if open crotch garments is ALSO just urban legend? I never came across those myself

Anyone with them made them themselves.

The old one piece are an open crotch design. Gotta use the bathroom without taking your shirt off.

They were very real. My parents wore them. A lot of older members considered two peice garments to be sinful.

Oh, they existed all right, or I haven't seen my moms bum!

The two peicers without the slit weren't devised until probably the 1960s or 70s.

Until about the 1950s garmies were once piece longjohns with a crotch slit and opening down the front. They started out with front ties but eventually closed with buttons.

The ankle/wrist style long john garmies were required in the temple long after the shorter slitted garmies were used on a daily basis.

In the 1970s, working in a medical office, I assisted with pelvic and rectal exams of patients who did not take off their one-piece garments. The speculum, sigmoidoscope, and digital examinations were performed through the slit.

A retired OB-GYN who practiced in SLC for decades told me that he had often delivered babies through the open crotches of one-piece garments.

If this were true, I'm pretty sure it would have blown up the news by now. As much as I would love for this to be true, your friend is talking a line of shit.

Well you have to wonder about that, when you think about it, we all experienced weird stuff in our first temple visits, but were told to keep attending and it will be fine after.

Heck, up until recently everyone who went in for their own endowments was subjected to naked touching.

Good point, squeebee! I never went in for endowments and am glad I did not!

So-called "virginity tests," unfortunately, are all too common over far more of this planet than almost anyone who is not part of the cultures involved understands. They happen right here in the U.S.A., and they happen in Canada just as often (according to culture percentages), and they happen in all parts of western Europe, and they happen most everywhere else as well (with some notable exceptions: I've never heard of them happening in Polynesia, for example...or Japan...or several other, fairly specific geographical places, except among immigrant populations who bring the concept "in" when they immigrate).

But because of so-called "honor killings" (which also take place far more often than most people realize...including in my own U.S. metropolitan area), and rising general awareness of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) which is ALSO far too widespread globally (including right here in North America), the awareness in the general population of "virginity tests" has greatly increased in the past few decades.

It's not a reach to imagine someone who suddenly becomes aware, for the first time, of the existence of "virginity tests" to (either consciously or unconsciously) conflate this new-to-them information with what they know (or imagine) of Mormon cultural and religious practices.

For any particular person who would do this, it's just a matter of embellishing one newly-learned-of, crazy, religiously-based thing to another religiously-based crazy thing which is already at least somewhat familiar to them.

Doesn't make it true on any level, but it IS understandable as the genesis of an urban legend.

One of the most disgusting urban legends about Mormons. Total BS.

The last time I looked (last year) they still make the one piece female and male garments.

Lol, OK I'm embarrassed to say this, but to save you all from eternal wonderment, I always wore "1-piecers'. I found them very comfortable, actually... And so yes, they exist. BTW, I'm 33, lol!

Sounds like a fairy tale to me too but my SIL did have the sealer in the temple claim the right to kiss her on the lips, before her groom. My husband was there (this was before we met) and was really upset by it. He told the sealer at our wedding that no one better dare kiss me and the sealer was horrified at what happened to my SIL. He said that wasn't standard practice and the sealer at my SIL's ceremony was way out of line.

Weird stuff happens - but the above story is just too weird.

Uh, that would be "shocking" not standard. Really? You thought it was possible this might be standard practice?

I wouldn't say it's impossible at a church with thousands of child sex abuse cases every year, but it definitely should have been reported.
