I was reading a tithing thread and this old yarn popped into my head from childhood. I'm 42 years old now, for perspective. Anybody else remember hearing this?

Story goes like this:

An old lady who has "nothing" goes to the bishop for tithing settlement and gives him her single penny, which is "100% of all she has". This penny meant so much more to the lord than your $100 because it was everything she had.

In essence, give until it hurts, because somebody is always giving more, is the moral of the story.

Does that sound familiar?

Sounds like the window's mite story from the Bible.

Yep. Not the first time a Mormon leader has blatantly plagiarized the Bible.

Thanks. It's funny, I can't remember where I would have obtained a CTR ring (circa 1978). I can't remember if they were given away at church, or if I bought it somewhere. I'm leaning towards given away since there's no chance I would have spent my own money on it.

I actually spent money on the thing.
* sigh*
that would have bought a lot of good beer and gourmet coffee! Oh well, live and learn
just as well it vanished- do I REALLY want to inflict it on someone? lol

RE YOUR YARN: a twisted yarn indeed. That kind of thing goes on all the time. "Dont worry sister, we know you just gave all you had, but the Lord will provide! He will make sure you eat!" Happens in pentecostal churches also

How much did you spend on it? A good six pack of IPA costs $10, I can't imagine mine cost more than $10, since it turned my finger green.
