Make sure to click on them and make them spend money on you, but, be warned, ad companies are able to track you across multiple websites.
Just visiting the church's website will probably make it so you see more of the church's ad's. I've seen this with cars, coffee, 1-800 contacts, and so on. Just visiting the main page then going to any other website that has ad's from their ad network will start displaying ad's to "recapture" your business.
The idea is that if you visited the site, you were interested, and you leaving means a lost sale. If they can keep reminding you about it, then they could draw you back in.

You should try clearing your cookies or install anti-ad plugins (if you're in Firefox or chrome) to disable or hide the annoying ad's. Adblock plus is in both and it works really well for me.
