I've noticed that when Mormons talk about good things happening in their own lives, they say it's because of their faith in Jesus Christ and the gospel. If bad things happen to them, it's just god testing their faith.

But,

if bad things happen to other people who aren't Mormon, Mormons act like, "Now, if they were following the gospel . . . " like it's some punishment.

Irritating.

this happened to me recently when I got a really kickass job. I told my parents because I had told them I was looking for one. When I did, they said "well, we've been praying for you, glad it worked!" No, it wasn't because I'm smart or had any type of skill, it's because they prayed for it. I guess when I didn't have a job it was because they were slacking at the temple.

That might be a great thing to say to them the next time something bad happens in your life. Just ask them why they were slacking off at the temple. Don't they care anymore? /s

Hmmmmm.... Let's see how that might be depicted.

When God allowed Brother Joseph to be shot in Carthage
Jail in 1844, it was to test President Smith's faith.

But -- when God allows thousands of flu victims to die
each year (even after getting a flu vaccination), it is
because they are wicked Gentiles who have not accepted
the latter day restoration of the fullness of the gospel.

Sounds perfectly logical to me.

Is that they are so disappointed when good things happen to non/ex folks. So strange!

I recently bought a house, and my DW thinks The Lord was watching out for us because the mortgage closed before the deadline. A couple in the ward hard to sell on short notice and managed to get an offer after two days on the market, again DW knows The Lord was watching out for them.

Not that lenders are motivated to make deadlines, and realtors priced the home to sell quick.

Good and bad things happen to everyone, regardless of religion or station in life.

Something that bugs me about Mormons they equate doing well financially with being blessed. So people who are living in poverty, living paychech to paycheck, or have been laid off aren't blessed?
