My teenage daughter offended a TBM friend of hers when she mentioned that girls have higher pain tolerances because they have a period every month. Get this - he was offended because it made him think about "temptations". Here's the text message he sent her - and keep in mind this was sent to her after she apologized to him.

"I just want you to be aware of the dangers you can pose when you talk about things that aren't appropriate for public casual conversation. You have no idea how hard it is for us guys to keep bad thoughts out of our heads. For me personally, it's harder than any other temptation. It's serious. No matter what your views are on the subject, it's not something to be taken lightly. Yes, I was offended and I had trouble keeping that out of my head for the next several hours. I'm not mad, but I am very upset, and I really would like you to not talk about things like that. And apology accepted."

Ok, what kind of freak is this guy? I can get turned on by looking at sexy pictures, but not by a woman talking about her period. This guy has serious issues. And he's laying the guilt on the girl instead of himself, for putting those thoughts in his head.

They seriously think their thoughts are not their own.

Each to their own but a women having her period never turned me on. I guess some of these Mormon boys are vampires and the thought of blood makes them go crazy.

That is really weird. I didn't grow up with sisters and quite frankly period's gross me out. I understand that they are natural, but I just don't like to think about them and when a girl mentions them it would be a huge turn off.

That kid is twisted if he gets his thrills by thinking about a woman's cycle. I wonder if he stashes tampons under his mattress?

From John Garrison (and others):

"I don't trust anything that bleeds for five days and doesn't die!"... or something like that.

...the "boredom wood" phenomenon in teenage boys. Hmm.

Given the context you provided, any mention of menstruation, however in passing, starts to give this guy wood. His testosterone levels must be pretty high when ANY thought of the feminine area gets him ready for sex.

I'm guessing that if this guy actually saw a necked woman, his brain would explode.

ps when I saw the subject of your post I thought you were talking about the lower crossbar on a girls bicycle. lol

I had that same thought. Now, I am disgusted about the sexual frustration the Morg imprints on the members. "Go get Laid, buddy." is my advice to this guy.

And you know what else this guy did? Right after her comment, he took out his pocket-size hymn book and started reading hymns - during Calculus.

As a former teenage boy myself, I have to say that the idea of women having periods never, not even once, turned me on in the slightest.

That guy sounds like he has a fetish for blood just like some people get turned on by urine or feces. I remember reading that Adolph Hitler was a fecophiliac (someone who gets aroused by feces).

He probably is attracted to her and wants to have a serious conversation with her so he chose this as a "way in". Boys can't help their deviousness.

grows a pair and learns that this is a perfectly natural female phenomenon that *males* have to live with too, maybe he'll learn that it's even ok to get a little blood on the sword.

I swear when I saw the title of JF's post, I thought it was something uttered by those benighted, women-hating Muslim clerics because it sounds exactly like something one of those assholes would say.

Monthly period = sexual temptation?

sexual thoughts = "Bad" thoughts?

This young man is not forming healthy sexual attitudes. I feel sorry for his girlfriends/wife.

He needs to go to the mountain top and masturbate to some porn and get himself focused.

I'm sure this poor kid has bought into the "sex is evil and dirty outside of marriage" 100%.

The bigger problem is that when you repress your sexuality it comes out in deformed, weird ways.

Right now I'm trying to lose 15 pounds and get down to 180 where I'm comfortable at. All I can think about is FOOD!

The kid probably thinks Period-Vagina-sex-oh god do I ever want sex!!!!!

I feel sorry for him!

Okay, it has to be said. I've known many women in my lifetime that were extra horny during the menstrual cycle. Nothing a raft of towels couldn't fix.

Just sayin'...

This boy has obviously been taught that girls have the responsibility to not put dirty thoughts into a boy's mind. This is a sick doctrine, and is taught way too much in the church. It guilts the girls whenever they want to wear something tight or in any way stylish, and it gets the boys off the hook by blaming the girls.

My husband's response: "Wow, that guy's a douche."

Couldn't agree more. If anything, I'd encourage your daughter to talk about it more with this guy and knock him off his male-superior rocker.

MAYBE wacking off, maybe actually being with a girl, or maybe NOT being attracted to women at all. Whatever it is your daughter shouldn't have apologized. I am a little antagonistic and would love to tell your daughter to bait him a little. See what else upsets him.

It's the "walking pornography talk" that let's guys blame women for them having horny (= eeevil ) thought.

F_cked up cult.
They are subconsciously overcompensating for Joseph Smith's hornyness.

Victorians used to cover their table legs for fear men would find them erotic.

There's so many things wrong here, I don't even know where to start. First off, the guy gets turned on thinking about a girl having her period? Really? That's rather unusual. It seems he has some very warped views about sexuality. Is that church's fault? No doubt partly, but I think there are some issues with how his parents approach sexuality in the home for something this warped.

So hes's upset because a girl talked about her cycle in front of her friends. Umm, teenager girls talk about their cycles a lot. How much the pain sucks, how much they wish it were over, etc. They should not be judged about this from a sexually repressed idiot. It's not like she was talking about it in the middle of a work meeting. If your daughter wants to talk about her period to her friends, who is this boy to say she shouldn't?

Now of course, there's the fact that the church teaches it is up to the girl to keep the boys' thoughts pure. I had more than one mormon boy tell me while we were dating that it was up to me to make sure he stayed morally good. And if we went "too far" it was my fault. No it's not. It's YOUR responsibility.

Is there some kind of Aaronic priesthood lesson thay teaches girls don't have sex drives, and that's it's their fault for your dirty thoughts. That's it's perfectly alright to blame them for your own impure thoughts? I seriously want to know.

One of the last times I was in church, it was the group meeting with the relief society and priesthood. The bishop got up and started telling parents to make sure their daughters dressed modestly or else the boys wouldn't go on missions. Yes this is true.

Even blaming the church, this boy seems off. Not someone teenage girls should hang around with, for their own safety.
